all students participate in two different seminars which meet during the first part of the program. students are evaluated by the seminar leaders on the basis of written work. students submit two essays for each seminar. seminars can be taken for undergraduate or graduate credit.

exploring the relationship between Christianity and the
development of the British Isles. Students hone their research
and writing skills and delve into the areas that interest
them most. Seminars and tutorials are given on specialized
topics under expert Oxford academics in the areas of English
language and literature, history, history of science, philosophy,
theology and religion. The program is structured for rising
college sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate and seminary
students, non-traditional students, teachers and those enrolled
in continuing education programs.
The Oxford Summer Programme may be taken for 6 credits
and is appropriate for a variety of academic levels. OSP is
now extended to a fifth week in order to allow students to
participate in tutorials as part of the curriculum. Each student
will have two tutorial meetings, the quintessential form of
Oxford pedagogy, as part of each seminar. Tutorials are given
on materials related to the students’ seminars and essay topics
and are offered by the tutor leading the seminar.

all students participate in the lecture series, the christian tradition in the british isles. this course includes lectures and three field trips to sites of major interest, providing the historical context for work undertaken in the seminars.
s e m i n a R s
all students participate in two different seminars which meet during the first part of the program. students are evaluated by the seminar leaders on the basis of written work. students submit two essays for each seminar. seminars can be taken for undergraduate or graduate credit.

all students participate in a set number of individual tutorials during the second part of the program. tutorials are given on materials related to the students’ seminar and essay topics.

Creditsallows students, as affiliate members of Wycliffe Hall,
University of Oxford, to do intensive scholarship while
exploring the relationship between Christianity and the
development of the British Isles. Students hone their research
and writing skills and delve into the areas that interest
them most. Seminars and tutorials are given on specialized
topics under expert Oxford academics in the areas of English
language and literature, history, history of science, philosophy,
theology and religion. The program is structured for rising
college sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate and seminary
students, non-traditional students, teachers and those enrolled
in continuing education programs.
The Oxford Summer Programme may be taken for 6 credits
and is appropriate for a variety of academic levels. OSP is
now extended to a fifth week in order to allow students to
participate in tutorials as part of the curriculum. Each student
will have two tutorial meetings, the quintessential form of
Oxford pedagogy, as part of each seminar. Tutorials are given
on materials related to the students’ seminars and essay topics
and are offered by the tutor leading the seminar.

are legendary and its creative legacy profound. The university is the oldest in the English speaking world. Teaching began
here around 1096 and the university became the center of great religious and political debate. John Wycliffe fought for a bible in the vernacular in the 14th century. During the
Reformation, Anglican churchmen Cranmer, Latimer and Ridley were tried for heresy and burned at the stake
for refusing King Henry VIII’s request for an annulment. Charles I held his counter-parliament in the Convocation
House of the Bodleian Library, also used for scenes in Harry Potter. Alice discovered Wonderland by falling through a
well one mile outside of town, Thomas Huxley and Bishop Wilberforce prepared for their great debate and John
Ruskin founded a school of fine art. Tolkien created Middle Earth and C.S. Lewis imagined a magical wardrobe, while
Dorothy Sayers found a place in Oxford for Lord Whimsey. Here, Iris Murdoch crafted her stories and Margaret
Thatcher prepared to become the future Prime Minister.All inspired by this very special place.
