The Moroccan Association of Teachers of English (called herein MATE) is a nongovernmentalorganisation that was created in 1979 by Moroccan teachers and s!ervisors of English" Their 

main goal behind that idea is to res!ond to an rgent need for !rofessional develo!ment and the

develo!ment of E#T in Morocco" MATE since then accmlated a long e$!erience and

e$!ertise for its members and non members as well% for& on a reglar basis& 'arterly

newsletters and annal !roceedings ensed the annal conference that tae !lace every end of 

March or beginning of A!ril" Almost all Moroccan cities hosted the event" ince its creation&

MATE has gained credibility all over Morocco" Many branches were set ! in different cities&

on the !rsit of covering all the geogra!hical territory" To name some of these: Marraech&

Agadir& *ar+a+ate,-agora& .eni,Mellal& /elmim& 0e+& Ti+nit& Essaoira& #aayone& #arache

and Nador"

however& teachers and ins!ectors had been endeavoring in a commnity,lie mood and s!irit

which clminated in organising two sccessive annal collo'ia: one in Tinghi r& 1999 and the

other in *ar+a+ate" 0rom then on& the idea of setting ! a *ar+a+ate,based branch began to

gain momentm" 5n fact& no sooner had the branch been created than its members nrelctantly

wored seriosly& generosly and benevolently for the sae of their own !rofessionaldevelo!ment& and for the benefit of their stdents in the final analysis& es!ecially that

*ar+a+ate,-agora,Tinghir region is far from the services offered by English centres and

niversities that might em!ower its stdents as well as teachers of English" 6oming is a brief 

chronology of collo'ia organised by *-T MATE branch"

*-T MATE branch is bestowed by rich hman !otentialities that ensre the

sstainability of its members who are willing to accom!lish more and more

edcational achievements no matter how scarce are material resorces& and albeit

other challenges that im!ede their way" The branch has been re!resented by its

 benevolent members in many"
