School has been a hive of activity, events and, of course, learning. We certainly are appreciating the opportunities that have been available to our students this term and are taking the chances with both hands. Today we visited the Rockhampton Zoo with focusses on deepening learning of the Prep-Year 2 English Information Text unit and Year 3-6 HASS and Science units. It was a wonderful day out together and the students were a credit to their behavior and collaboration skills. Next week, the whole school will have an online meeting with Mackenzie Duffy, an Olympic Athlete as part of the QLD Olympics Unleashed Online. The Olympians, Paralympian's and elite athletes aim to inspire and motivate students to be the best they can be. Also next week, the Year 3-6 students will be travelling to Moura to participate in the AMMA STEM Day with fellow schools. The bus will be leaving from school at 8:30am sharp to arrive at Moura in time for the session to begin at 9:30am. All students have been enjoying learning cricket with Mrs Stewart every Tuesday and we will have Maddy Randazzo travelling to us for six weeks from Cricket Australia to hone our skills even further. On Friday 28th August, students in Year 3-6 have been invited to nominate to play cricket at the Woolworths Cricket Blast. Has your child been extra persuasive lately? Students in Year 3-6 have been working exceptionally hard to apply rhetorical questions, modal verbs and emotive language to their persuasive writing. Shortly, they will bring their writing home to practice their presentation skills ready for the PCSS Speaking Competition on Thursday 3rd September. Thank you parents for your involvement in our parent teacher meetings over the last few weeks. It was great to share the progress and next learning goals together with our families, as we work together for all students. We enjoyed our adventure today to the Rockhampton Zoo to work on our HASS concepts. This term in HASS, we are learning about using places sustainably. We

mapped the Zoo and identified the location of places. We described the characteristics of places including the types of natural vegetation and animals that need those

environments. Finally, we investigated the use of how environments can be used sustainability and how different groups manage waste.

Hi Parents,

How do you like to be loved? It’s not a question we get asked

often, but it’s one I walk to talk about this week.

Did you know that, in the same way that we all have different

personalities, we also have different ways of giving and

receiving love? The 5 Love Languages is a #1 New York Times

bestseller book written by Dr Gary Chapman. In his book,

Chapman presents a simple truth: relationships grow better

when we understand each other. Isn’t this true for all forms of

relationships – couples, children, teenagers, friends,

co-workers and the list goes on?

Have you ever cleaned up the house all weekend, only to find

that it wasn’t appreciated by your partner, who just wanted to

go out and do something with you? Or maybe you’ve taken

the time to do up a really thoughtful gift for a work colleague,

but when you give it to them they don’t seem as appreciative

as you had hoped. Or perhaps you’ve noticed that one of your

children likes to be right with you, touching you all the time,

whereas the other would prefer to play a game of soccer with

you outside.

Words of affirmation, acts of service, receiving gifts, quality

time and physical touch are the 5 languages talked about in

Chapman’s book. Not much of a reader? Don’t worry, there is

an online quiz you can do for each person in your household.

There are about 20 multiple choice questions and at the end it

will show you how you best like to be loved.

When my extended family each did this quiz, it really opened

our eyes to see how mistaken we had been in showing love to

each other and we learnt how we could love each family

member in the way they appreciated it the most. This helped

strengthen our relationships as an extended family unit and I

found it especially helpful when interacting with my husband.

Can I encourage you to take the Love Language Quiz? They

have different quizzes for different ages and relationship

stages, but trust me when I say that it will really open your

eyes, and if everyone is on board, I can see it really

strengthening the relationships you have.

Have fun taking

the quiz and

don’t forget to

make today

amazing!

Learn to Draw Together

There are so many great YouTube tutorials out there for

learning how to draw, but one of my favourite channels is

called Art for Kids Hub. Rob uploads fun, step-by-step tutorials

with his children each week. These videos are easy to follow

and empower children to just give it a go.
