From the Principal’s Desk
Dear Parents and Carers,
What a fantastic day we had yesterday at our Grandparent’s and Book Character Parade! The costumes were fantastic and the support from our families brilliant! A big special thank you to both Mrs Colluci and Mrs Thurley for coordinating this event. The memories on these sort of days stay with the children forever!
A big congratulations also to our Senior Soccer boys who entered the Wanderer’s Soccer Day Cup Finals last week on a wild card entry. Not only did we have a very successful day we also defeated the school who knocked us out earlier in the year! Fantastic effort boys and thank you to our super coach Mrs Cullen.
Coming up in the next 4 weeks, we have our Kindergarten Kickstart Orientation program for our 2018 Kindy students. I would like to welcome you all and I know that you will be well looked after! Thank you Miss Twarloh for your organisation and allowing our new students to start to transition into ‘big school’. If you know of a local family that still has not enrolled, can you please encourage them to do soon as we have commenced our planning for these students to ensure a smooth start in 2018.
Coming up on Tuesday 14 November (Wk. 6), I would like to invite all parents and carers to one of two sessions we are running in relation to future directions in the new 2018-2020 School Plan. These meetings will be held at 9:15am and 5:30pm respectively in the School Library. We will look at what we have achieved over the past three years and where we believe we need to head to next. Of particular note, I will be unpacking the plans for the future inclusive of:
Embedding more explicit Formative Assessment into the student learning and teaching cycle to ensure that all student needs are met. Incorporating ‘Effective Feedback’ into the learning cycle to increase student engagement. An in-depth whole school focus on Writing.
Continuation of evidence based early literacy and numeracy programs. The incorporation of an off-class Assistant Principal to take on the role of Instructional Leader working closely with the Principal and all teachers on their pedagogy approaches.
Discussing the formation of a boy’s education class for Years 2 and 3 next year.
I have already discussed the possibilities with teachers and looked at the data carefully that supports these directions. The upcoming opportunities are very exciting and I look forward to discussing them all with you further. At the parent meetings, we will also present some of the data that supports the mind set behind the future directions.
Lastly, our formal school blazers for special events and leadership activities have arrived at the school. Thank you to Mrs Cutajar and Mrs Harris for organising them! They have been purchased as the gift to the school from monies raised by the 2016 Year 6 students. The blazers look amazing and we will be starting to use them. If you’d like to pop into the office, we have one on display.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Loughhead

Roy Ringrose has visited 4/5S this week!
Today I had the pleasure of visiting 4/5S and saw all the
students working with their grandparents on a fantastic
activity. The students were creating word clouds
on the character Auggie from the book ‘Wonder’
which they had spent a term reading and
discussing.
I also saw many interesting book characters from
a range of wonderful books such as Dr Seuss,
Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland and much
more. It was wonderful to see the students get
into the spirit of things and dress up as one of
their favourite book characters.
It was such a fun day to go and visit 4/5S today!

Western Sydney Wanderers - Soccer Gala Day 2017
Last Tuesday, some of the Year 5 and 6 boys attended the Western Sydney Wanderers Regional Finals. We came third in the heats, so we were given the wildcard entry for the day. We were so excited for the opportunity to play against some of the best teams in New South Wales, as well as playing on some professional fields. We had 4 rounds to play before finals. With one loss and 3 wins, we came second in our pool! What was very exciting about this is that we ended up winning against the team that won our local heat! We really were playing so well as a team and played our best soccer! During the finals, we held out one of the more difficult teams until the last minute, losing 2-1. In our final match, in the blazing heat, we played our very best to draw at the end leading us into a penalty shoot out. What a nervous way to end the day! However, the boys didn't let nerves get the best of them and we won the shoot out 4-0! What a brilliant day it was! They played the best soccer I've seen them play all year! However, what stood out was the manner in which the boys held themselves - they were polite and great sports throughout the day. They helped each other and were willing to let all of their teammates get the best out of the day. I am very proud of every single boy who attended. What a brilliant way to end our soccer year together!
