THE SWEDISH RULE

In 1809 the sejm was held in Borgo (Porvoo) where it

was proclaimed that Finland joined the Russian Empire.

During the October Revolution of

1917 in Russia the Finnish senate wrote

the Declaration of Independence Finland

THE OCTOBER REVOLUTION, 1917

The Civil War in Finland was started in January 27 to

May 15, 1918.During the War Finland was

devided into the Red and the White parts.

The Red part was supported by the Russian Soviet

Republic, while The White part received military aid from the German Empire and Swedish volunteers.

MODERN FINLAND

The Finnish constitution was adopted in 1919. From this moment

Finland is the republic. Supreme executive power is vested in the

president, elected for six-year term by direct popular vote.

Today legislative power is divided between the president and the

parliament.Government is headed by the Prime

Minister who runs the country.
