1 Overview The main purpose of this document is to outline a process through which the Redline Certified Partner, (RCP), can determine and document the customer’s expectations. Following this process brings the following benefits:
• The customer will know early on how their needs will be met • The Redline Partner can estimate the effort involved in designing the Network • The process provides a basis for a project plan • Cell planning and system design can be completed without any complications • The Redline Partner and the customer can reach agreement on the project scope
For small to medium contracts, the RCP can complete the Network Assessment without visiting the customer location. However, Redline recommends that for medium to large customer contracts, a Redline Certified Expert, (RCE), along with a professional installer should visit the locale where the customer proposes to deploy the RedMAX network. The scope of the customer visit will be to guide and educate the customer on RedMAX products in general, and assess the potential of BTS sites. This will include understanding the customer’s expectations of what RedMAX products can deliver, adjusting expectations if necessary and educating the customer on BTS site selection to obtain the best subscriber penetration. Network Assessment is a major step that needs to be completed prior to any cell planning exercise. This phase will capture multiple project information that will determine the inputs for the planning and design of the Radio Access Network. According to the Redline Deployment Process Flow Document, the Network Assessment stage is part of the planning phase. It is the first stage of the planning phase. The following block diagram will illustrate where the network assessment plays a role in the planning phase.

The RCE should review the customer’s short and long term business requirements by assessing the following:

3 Network and Backhaul Requirements
A formal definition of “Network”: “provides the means to access information over a diverse set of wireless and wired connections”. A formal definition of “Backhaul” is: “the process of transmitting information to a central point from which it can be distributed over a network”. In any deployment, it is very important to understand and review the customer’s network and backhaul requirements. The RCE should review the customer’s network and backhaul concepts by assessing the following:

One of the most important parts of completing a network design is for the partner to be fully aware of all the candidate sites available to the customer. The demographics, NOC, backhaul, and potential BTS sites should be identified by the customer and assessed by the partner.
