Sheet metal ducting
Straight ducting
The unit of measurement for ducting shall be the
square meters of each type and category
constructed and completed as shown on the
drawings and as specified.
The assignment of categories is per the SMACNA
standard. The quality represents the total duct
area/length for a particular type of ducting and
category. The tendered rate should not allow for
fitting extra-over, these are itemised separately.
The tendered rates shall include full compensation
for the installation of the ducting, including the
supply of all materials, cutting, installing, jointing
and brackets.
Duct fittings
The unit of measurement shall be the number of
each fitting (type and category) constructed and
completed as shown on the Drawings and as
specified.

ducting and category.
The tendered rate is an extra-over and should

GENERAL
The Model Preambles for Trades (2008 edition) as published by the Association of South African Quantity Surveyors shall be deemed to be incorporated in these bills of quantities and no claims arising from brevity of description of items fully described in the said Model Preambles will be entertained
Supplementary preambles and/or specifications are incorporated in these bills of quantities to satisfy the requirements of this project. Such supplementary preambles and/or specifications shall take precedence over the provisions of the Model Preambles
The contractor's prices for all items throughout these bills of quantities must take account of and include for all of the obligations, requirements and specifications given in the said Model Preambles and in any supplementary preambles
The contractor is to allow opposite each item for all costs in connection therewith. All prices to include, unless otherwise stated, for all materials, fabrication, conveyance and delivery,unloading, storing, unpacking, hoisting, labour, setting, fittingand fixing in position, cutting and waste (except where to be
measured in accordance with the standard system of
measurement), patterns, models and templates, plant,
temporary works, returning of packaging, duties, taxes (other

installed it would possibly clash into the existing services which
need to be removed and relocated as practical and as pointed
out by the employer
The costs involved with these relocations will be for the
contractors costs and is to be priced under this item.

paving, etc, in such a manner as to prevent any danger of their
collapsing or becoming unsafe at any time. Great care is to be
taken to prevent any damage to the buildings to remain

marks, etc to existing work where walls, ceilings, floor
coverings, doors, frames, etc have been removed
General
The contractor shall carry out the whole of the works with as
little mess and noise as possible and with a minimum of
disturbance to adjoining premises and their tenants. He shall
provide proper protection and provide, erect and remove when
directed, any temporary tarpaulins that may be necessary
during the progress of the works, all to the satisfaction of the
employer
Water supply pipes and other piping that may be encountered
and found necessary to disconnect or cut, shall be effectually
stopped off or grubbed up and removed, and any new
connections that may be necessary shall be made with proper
fittings, to the satisfaction of the employer
