Dear Friends,On the beautiful, joyous side, our Library has celebrated and will continue to celebrate its fiftieth birthday. On the tragic side, the Library community mourns the passing of Mayor, Trustee, Friend, and library advocate, Christopher J. Killmur-ray. The Friends has plated a Leaf on The Giving Tree to memorialize him. We extend our condolences to all of his loved ones.

Let’s talk Tea. Our Annual Membership Tea is always a fun event. It was agreed

From the by Friends members that this was the best one ever. Part of the success was due to our presenter Judith Krall-Russo, acclaimed tea specialist. As always our kudos were well earned by our Tea Committee, led by Ruth Ruddick. Our chefs outdid themselves with a variety of fabulous scones, breads, savories and desserts. Our tea service was enhanced by six exemplary teens who flaw-lessly served our thirsty palates—Miralini Boopalam, Gayathri Eswar, Youssef Hadd-ad, Aiketh Lakshmanan, Vishali Madabushi and Aashvi Manakiwali.

Saleena and the teens are in the process of organizing our first vendor flea market sale this summer. Watch for details. We look forward to seeing you at this event as well as at the vast variety of parties, classes and ac-tivities. Join us, and you will never be bored.

Our May meeting will be held at the Library; however, our June meeting will be held off premise. Remember, we meet the second Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. We do not meet in either July or August.

Fondly,Susan Edelman

The Library is one of many community organizations in South Brunswick still mourning the loss of Township Mayor Chris Killmurray. Mayor Killmurray passed away on April 8 after a long illness.

To Library staff, he will be missed as a mayor, library advocate, avid mystery reader, patron of our fundraising events, and of course someone all staff and volunteers counted on for the delivery of Irish Soda Bread on St. Patrick’s Day each year.

A councilman since 2003 and later Deputy Mayor, Killmurray filled the mayor’s seat after the death of Mayor Frank Gambatese (another loyal library advocate) just last year.

Like Gambatese, Killmurray was a member of the Library Board of Trust-ees and a familiar face at Library func-tions. The Library was even named among suggested recipients for dona-tions after Killmurray’s passing.

The affection was mutual and he will be missed by all members of Library staff and volunteers.

Beach weather is coming (really!) and what better way to enjoy a relaxing day at the beach then with a good book!
