context
• Writing – Various Themes
- Build the field through shared ‘experiences’ – stories, newspapers articles or video clips
- Develop the plot through Story Mountain
TIPS to Writing Well
1. Strive to get the basics right. Important to achieve accuracy in spelling, punctuation and application of grammar rules.

Mathematics
Concrete stage –
the stage of
learning where
students work only
with the
manipulatives so as
to understand a
mathematical
concept. Symbols
are absent during
this stage.
Pictorial stage – the stage where students
use pictures in the same manner as
manipulatives. The manipulatives may or may
not be present. It is also the stage where
students may watch the manipulation of
manipulatives instead of doing it themselves.
Abstract stage – the stage
where there is no
manipulative or pictorial
help but symbols are used
instead. Students
manipulate the symbols
using the math concepts
learned from the previous
stages.

Model Drawing
•Encourage your child to draw models.
•Model drawing is a useful strategy to help students
visualize the problem, and translate words into pictorial
representation.
•Model drawing aids the child in problem solving
especially at the upper primary.
•Please also note that the use of model rulers will not be
allowed during examination from Primary Six onwards.
Your child is strongly encouraged to draw models with
rulers and not with model rulers.
Equation
Rationale: The marking code is used as a form of diagnostic marking. It is used to communicate the type of mistakes made by the students so that they can make improvement.

(1 week)
Quality of work
1. Pupils present their methods neatly and clearly in pencil. They need to write answer statements for all problem sums.
2. Pupils complete corrections in green pen.
3. For construction questions and drawing of models, insist the use of rulers, pencils and mathematical sets (P3 set square).
4. Date every piece of work assigned.
5. Parents’ signatures are requested (every chapter in Targeting Math, Activity Booklets, practice and exam papers).
6. Put all P3 Math worksheets in 3 blue files:
(1) Targeting Math 3A
(2) Targeting Math 3B
(3) Other Worksheets (Activity Booklets, practice and exam papers,
differentiated worksheets, etc)
7. Encourage the use of model. Stress on the importance of labelling the
models. Pupils are not allowed to use model rulers during examination
from Primary Six onwards.
Supportive Parents
1) Spend time with your child daily (where possible) or at
least once a week to interact with your child regarding the
school activities or homework assignments. Sign your
child’s booklets as and when the signatures are requested
by your child’s teacher.
2) To provide SLS access for the child to be engaged in self-
directed learning and consolidation of concepts.
3) Make Math alive (e.g. Use of coins in the canteen to buy
food). To provide opportunities to help pupils see how
Math concepts are applied in their daily lives.
4) Encourage your child even if he / she has difficulty
coping / understanding a problem. Praise your child even
if he / she makes minimal improvement.
