The Nokia Lumia 800 runs Windows Phone 7. This is the latest OS,

however, Nokia might roll out software updates in the future. Read on to

nd out how to check if new software is available for your phone and how

to update it.

Use the Zune PC app to update your phone software for new features and

improved performance. When you update your phone software with Zune, your

personal content is not deleted from your phone.

You will need:

The Zune app

A compatible computer

A high-speed internet connection

A compatible USB data cable

To download and install Zune to your PC, go to www.zune.net . If youre using an

Apple Mac, download Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac from the App Store.

Before starting the update, make sure your phone has enough battery power.

Use the USB data cable to connect your phone to your computer.

If Zune doesnt open automatically, open it.

Wait while Zune checks for available updates, and follow the

instructions displayed on your computer.

Your phone is automatically backed up during the software update.

You can also sync your phone to your computer with Zune or

Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac without updating your

phone software.

Select Phone Update.

Tick the box next to Notify me when new updates are found.

Go to the Settings menu.

Choose Bluetooth.

Turn the status to On. Choose the device you wish to pair with.

The other device will then receive a notication asking to pair with

your device, and will also be sent a pin number to make sure the

match is correct.

Go to the Settings menu. Choose Bluetooth.

Turn the status to Off.

You can use the Zune PC app to copy pictures, videos, music, and other content

between your phone and a PC.

Use a compatible USB data cable to connect your phone to a compatible PC.

On your PC, open Zune to transfer any data using the programme.

The Lumia 800 has SkyDrive feature, which allows you to store

25GB worth of digital content on the cloud absolutely free of charge.Keeping your photos, music, videos and documents on your SkyDrive

means you can access it from anywhere via the internet. You can also

use it to back up all your stuff, so if you lose or break your mobile youll

still have all your data. To save an image to the SkyDrive:

Long press on your chosen image.

Choose the Share option.

Choose the SkyDrive as your location.

Add a caption if you wish, then press the ying envelope icon to send.

Go to Applications.

Choose Camera.

Youll now be able to see through your phones cameralens. To take a picture, press the Camera button on the

bottom of the right hand side of the phone.

If you want to focus, hold down the Camera button half way

rst before fully pushing down to take the picture.

Open up the camera by following the above instructions.

To change from camera to video mode, press the Video Camera icon at the bottomright hand side of the screen.

Press the Camera button start the recording, and press it again to nish.

The video will now be saved to your phone.

In the camera mode, click the Settings cog icon.

You will see three lightning bolt Flash symbols.

Choose the top lightening bolt for a forced ash.

Choose the middle lightening bolt with a strikethrough to turn off the ash.

Choose the lightening bolt with a little A to switch to auto ash.

Go to the Pictures Hub by clicking on the picture hub tile on the

homescreen. You can select to view pictures and videos from your Camera

Roll, Albums, or search by Date, or by People.

Click on which category you would like to view

and youll be able to scroll through and

click on an image or video to view it.

Go into the image you would like to delete by

following the instructions above.

Either long press on the image or tap the three dots in

the bottom right hand corner of the screen to bring upimage options.

Choose Delete to delete the image or video.

There arent a limited number of pictures that you can take as it all

depends on how much memory you have left. Your phone comes with 16GB of internal memory so youll

have loads of room for pictures and other digital stuff, and if you need any extra room you have 25GB ofstorage space with SkyDrive. The amount of images you store will also depend on the size of the image

les, and that depends on the resolution settings.

Go to Settings.

Choose Email + Accounts.

Choose Add An Account.

You will then be able to choose from a list of email

service providers. Choose the one you want to use, tap

on it and then enter your log-in details.

Your phone will then synchronise with your account and

show a tile on your homescreen from which you can access

the account from.

Tap on the tile you created in the step above to access your email account.

Click the Plus icon to send a new email.

To insert a contact click the little Plus icon in the To eld to bring up your contacts.

Chose a contact by tapping on the one you want to send the message to.

Enter your message in the text eld.

To send the message, click the icon with the ying envelope on it.

If you have more than one mail account, you can choose which inboxes you want to link together in a

unied inbox. The unied inbox lets you see all your mail at a glance.To link inboxes:

On the homescreen, select a mailbox.

Press the three dots icon in the bottom right hand corner to bring

up the menu then choose Link Boxes.

Choose which inbox you would like to link to from the list.

Select Rename Linked Inbox, enter a new name, and press the

Select tick icon.

The new unied inbox will now be pinned to your homescreen.

On the start screen, select the linked inbox.

Press the three dots icon in the bottom right hand

corner to bring up the menu and then choose Link Boxes.

Choose which inbox you would like to un-link from the list.

It will ask you to conrm the un-link, click Un-link to

separate the mailboxes.

Follow the above instructions to open a new email message.

Once youve typed in your message, press the Attachment icon (it looks like a paperclip).

Choose the le you want to attach.

Press Send.

Press Messaging on the homescreen.

Select the plus icon to send a New Message.

Enter your recipients number or press the small plus icon in the To eld to add a contact.

Type your message into the text eld.

Tap the Attachment icon (it looks like a paperclip).

Choose the le you want to attach.

Press Options, then Send when youre ready.

Open up the message with the attachment in it.

Select the attachment, long press on it, or tap the three dots to

bring up options.

Go to Settings.

Go to Email and Accounts.

Select the account you wish to delete and long press on it.

Choose the Delete option.

Conrm to delete.

In the message conversation feed, tap the Speech icon (it looks like a microphone).

You will then be prompted to say your message.

The phone will then write out your message and send it for you.

Choose Region + Language.

Click the Display Language eld to bring up a list of different languages.

If you have media on your PC that you want to listen to or watch on

your phone, use the Zune PC app to copy music and videos to your

handset. You can also manage and synchronise your media collection

from here.

To copy data to your phone:

Use the USB data cable to connect your phone to a compatible computer.

On your computer, open Zune, select the les you want and copy them over.

You can also use Zune to make playlists of your favourite music and videos and

copy them to your phone.

The Nokia Lumia 800 supports:

AAC, M4B, MP3, WMA, AAC+, EVRC, MP42, eAAC+ and QCELP le formats.

The amount of songs you will be able to t onto your mobile is dependant on the amount of storage space you

have, and the size of the music les. The Lumia 800 has 16GB of internal storage, so depending on the quality

and duration of your song les, you should be able to t quite a few in. We estimate anywhere between 2800

and 4000 songs will t into your phones memory.

If youre into gaming and have an Xbox live account, you can log in and

access all your achievements, stats, messages and friends from your phone.When you open the app your avatar will appear and let you interact with it.

Try tapping and swiping the screen and see what reactions you get.

You might be able to make them dance, laugh or even fall over! If you want to

change your avatar theres also the option to select different styles, change your

features and buy extras from the Marketplace. To change your avatar:

Open the Xbox Live App and make sure youre signed in.

Side swipe left to view your prole and avatar.

Click on the Avatar heading, this will take you through to the customisation page.

Choose Change My Style to view a selection of clothes. Choose Change My Features to chose different hair styles and body parts.

Choose Marketplace to go to the marketplace and purchase extras.

Yes. It comes with access to the Marketplace.

Just click the Marketplace Icon from the homescreen.

First off, youll need to be connected to the internet via Wi-Fi or 3G. Once

youre online, press the Marketplace Icon from the homescreen. From here,

either tapApplications or side swipe left to see a quick menu list of featured

apps. In the main applications menu, side swipe to scroll through top apps,

categories, new apps, and featured apps. To search through the apps manually,

tap the Search magnifying glass symbol.

To download an app from Marketplace:

Choose the app you want to download by clicking on the apps icon.

Click on Buy at the bottom of the screen.

Click Allow when prompted.

Click Buy to complete the transaction.

You will then be directed to your list of apps where the app will download to.

The app logo will go from dull to bright once the download is complete.

If you are in an application click the Back arrow key at the bottom left

hand side of the screen until you are back on the homescreen.

Go to the Application list.

Long press on the app you wish to delete.

Choose Uninstall to delete the app.

Conrm the deletion by clicking Yes.

If youre in an unfamiliar place and looking for fun things to Local Scout

will come in handy. This app detects your location and then suggests

places nearby within a radius of 25 miles. Its especially useful for nding

places to visit for food and drinks, shopping, and things to see and do.

To use Local Scout:

Click on the Local Scout icon, and a list of places to eat and drink will appear.

Side swipe for things to see and do, places to shop, and recommended highlights.

For more details click, on the destination to view info, reviews, and related apps.

If you nd a place you particularly like, you can click the star icon to add to your favourites,

click the pin icon to pin to your homescreen, or click the ying message icon to send to

friends via text or email.

Bing Vision allows you translate the text from your photographs into different languages.

Not only that, but you can also nd text within your pics and use it to search the web.

To use Bing Vision:

Click the search to open Bing.

Select the Eye Icon for Bing Vision.

Take a photo of the text you wish to translate or search the web for.

The phone will then search the image for text and

highlight words for you to choose from.

Choose Translate to show the text in a different language, and a

list of languages will appear. If you are translating a foreign

language back into English, the phone will do this automatically.

Choose Search to look for the text on the web. On the web

search you can scan for internet pages, local results and images

by side swiping.

Nokia Drive offers a satellite navigation experience with voice prompting

to solve your destination problems. Maps are downloaded to your handset

and stored locally, meaning you wont be stung by roaming charges when

abroad, as long as you download the maps beforehand. You can also

switch between 2D and 3D views, day and night maps colours, and track

your speed and distance too.

To navigate to a place:

Before you leave connect to Wi-Fi and open the Nokia Drive app, then choose Settings.

Choose Manage Maps, then click the Plus icon.

Choose the continent you are travelling to, then the country.

Click Install to download the map for this country.

Once you have your maps downloaded, you can use them for free with no data charges.

Now go back into Settings and input the address or postcode in the Set Destination bar.

Let the map load and click Drive To, to conrm your destination.

Click Start to begin your journey.

If youve got a favourite style of music and would like to listen to some

recommendations, Mix Radio is a free mobile music streaming service.

Its great if you want to discover new music, and if you hear something

you like you can purchase and download the track from within the mix.

Open the Nokia Music app and side swipe left to access a

selection of quick launch Mix Radio mixes of music from a

variety of genres.

To access the full list of genres, choose Mix Radio from the

Music section.

Select your genre and a list of tiled subcategories will appear.

Choose one and Mix Radio will stream the music for you. Youcan skip through the mix once its playing.

If you hear something you particularly like, click the down arrow to

bring up the purchase page and youll be able to download the

track from here.

The Windows Phone 7.5 operating system makes switching between all the apps

you have running easier, especially handy if youre listening to music, surng the

web and playing a game at the same time.

To switch between apps:

Hold down the back button (the arrow key on the bottom left of the handset), this will

brings up a row of thumbnails of all the apps currently running.

Scroll over through the apps until you nd the one you wish to open.

Tap on the app to open it.

The People Hub feature collects all your contacts together, as well as social

feeds from Facebook, Twitter and Linked-in, and puts them all in one place.

To keep up to date with your favourite contacts, pin them to the

homescreen. This will create a live tile on the home screen which will

display information from that persons various social feed.

To pin a person:

Open the People Hub by tapping the People Hub

Select the contact you want to pin and long press on them.

Press the pin icon, and the contact will then appear on

your homepage.

To un-pin a contact, long press on the tile, then when the

strikethrough pin appears press to delete.

The App Highlights tile offers you recommendations on apps you might

fancy downloading from the Marketplace. It also alerts you when updates

are available for the Nokia apps youve got installed. Sometimes when

youre browsing a circular symbol appears, click on it and you will be

prompted to shake the phone. Give it a shake and a surprise app will appear!

To get your highlights:

Click on the App Highlights tile and swipe left to scroll through top apps,

starter kit apps, and top games.

If you see an app youre interested in click on the icon for that app. This will

bring up all the info including details, reviews, screenshots and related apps.

To install the app click Install, then select Allow, and the download should begin.

You will now nd the app within your list of applications. When the blue bar has fully

loaded, the icon will go from dull to bright and the app will be ready to use.

Go into Settings.

Press Wi-Fi.

Switch the Wi-Fi networking tab to On. Your phone will now scan for available Wi-Fi networks, You can tick the

box for your phone to notify you when new networks are found.

Press on the name of the network you want to connect to. If you need to

enter a Wi-Fi password, enter it now. After youve done this, your phone

will do the rest.

Once youre connected to a Wi-Fi network, your phone will display connected

underneath its name.

Go into Settings.

Choose Email + Accounts.

Choose Add An Account.

Select from the list of social networking sites, chose which ones you want to log in to and enter your log in

details when prompted.

Go into Settings.

Choose Location.

Make sure the location tab is switched to On.

Open up the browser by pressing on the Internet Explorer icon on

the homescreen.

Type the URL in the address bar. Press the Enter key.

Once on the page you want to bookmark, press the three dots on the bottom

right side of the screen.

Click Add To Favourites.
