District Summer Board Meeting
The Pennsylvania
District of Key Club was just
in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
for our Summer District
Board Meeting. Many issues
were discussed to help
make Pennsylvania Key
Club the best district
possible! We set new
objectives for the district
and our many committees.
We also prepared for our
upcoming District
Convention.
We heard from two
guest speakers. Laura
Babetski from the
Leukemia and Lymphoma
Society presented about
our District’s Youth Serving
Youth Project. She gave
wonderful ideas for service
projects that will be shared
with you soon! Stephanie
Feinberg, a Key Club ICON
intern, gave a wonderful
presentation and recap on
Key Club ICON. She was
the intern specifically for
Key TV. Check out Key TV
videos from ICON on
YouTube by searching Key
Club International.
The
Pennsylvania Key Club
Board met their Circle
K counterparts at the
Board meeting. Circle
K is the basically the
college version of Key
Club. Key Club and
Circle K will be working
very closely this year to
improve Kiwanis Family
Relations. Do you want
more information
about the topics and
policy codes discussed
at the meeting? Email

Kiwanis Family Relations Committee
The Kiwanis Family Relations
Committee is a district
committee that I am a
member of that aims to
improve communication
amongst the Kiwanis Family
Network. The K-Family
Committee’s other main
objective is to provide other
Lieutenant Governors and
clubs information about
chartering new Kiwanis
related clubs.
This month the committee
focused on Builders Club.
We produced a newsletter
that will accompany this
newsletter. Feel free to show
this Builders Club newsletter
to anyone and contact me
if you are interested in
chartering a Builders Club!
Kiwanis International
wanted to create a
program for children in
middle school around the
world to be involved in
service. They created
Builders Club to get young
teens active with
community service.
Builders Club International is
a middle school service
club sponsored by Kiwanis
that provides members with
opportunities to perform
service build character and

Barry’s Tips for Success
Are your club meetings
boring? Do you need help
retaining members? Do you
need fresh ideas for the
upcoming school year? You
came to the right place,
Barry’s Tips for Success! This
will be an ongoing column
that features tips, activities,
and ice breakers for clubs
that lost their fizzle.
Here is a game to get
everyone on the move and
energized on boring days:
Touch Blue! Call out a color
and have members scurry to
touch that any object of that
color or the person wearing
it.

Identify other things
other than colors, such as
“something glass” or
“something round” or
mention specific objects,
such as a black
backpack, sneakers, or a
watch. Be creative!
The New Service Hour Service Committee
Programs like “School &
Youth” which assists in
getting kids involved in
raising funds for this
organization, is a great
way to get your club
and community
involved. This program
includes projects like,
Olive Garden’s “Pasta
for Pennies” and “HOP
for Leukemia”. Both
projects are great ways
to get the youth involved
with the LLS organization.
The School & Youth
program has given so
many students a chance
to raise awareness and
funds to support patients
going through blood
cancers. By collecting
spare change, the youth
of today has raised over
12 million dollars for
patient services. With
your help and support,
we can raise these funds
and we can change the
world.” More LLS
information to come
soon!
The Service Committee is
another district
committee that I am a
member of for this year. I
am the new Co-
Committee Chair for the
District of Pennsylvania!
Our main objectives are
to create resources for all
of you, think of new
fundraising ideas, and
contact the Leukemia
and Lymphoma Society.
Here is an article
about LLS courtesy of LTG
Emma Evans: “While
summer is sadly coming to
an end, it is time to start
thinking of some ways that
you and your club can help
support the Leukemia and
Lymphoma Society. As this
being our Youth Serving
Youth project this year, it is
really important to make
sure that we’re supporting it
in every way possible! There
are many ways to serve the
LLS organization, including
the countless other
programs within the LLS
foundation.
At Key Club’s 31st Annual
International Convention in
1974, delegates voted 907
to 123 against a proposal
to go co-educational,
which would allow women
to join.
At the 65th Annual
International
Convention held in
2008, the majority of
attendees were
women!
In 1925, Frank Vincent
persuaded the local
Kiwanis Club in
Sacramento to sponsor a
high school club. This club
was comprised of key boys
in the school to serve the
school in any way possible
and create better school
spirit. Thus, the club was
dubbed Key Club. Today
Key Club stands for Kiwanis
Educating Youth!

Youth Serving Youth
Project, the Leukemia and
Lymphoma Society will be
in attendance at some
OCMs. The representative
will explain LLS and
different service project
ideas.
I am still in the middle of
planning OCMs for the
upcoming school year, so
check your emails readily! I
will be sending out a list of
all the OCM dates in the
very near future. You all
should attend all of the
OCMs but if conflicts arise,
please tell me!
Officer Council Meetings are
a meeting for all club officers
in the division. The purpose of
these OCMs is to discuss new
ideas, programs,
communications, and
obstacles. We will be having
many OCMs throughout the
year to make sure everyone is
on the same page. The first or
second OCM will give us the
opportunity to train the
officers who couldn’t attend
district convention.
This year, club officer
training has been changed
to an online format to make
our lives easier. Once the
online training is ready, we
can begin.
OCMs is a great opportunity
for you to meet and talk to
other club officers in your
area! You will also have a
chance to meet our Kiwanis
Zone Administrator, Sgt.
Coolbaugh. A representative

anyone in Division 18 South,
club adviser, club officer, or

The prompt for the month
of August is “What is your
favorite service project and
why?”
The prompt for the month
of July was the same as
the Oratorical contests for
Pennsylvania Key Club
District Convention and
Key Club International
Convention. The Prompt is
“How do people know
you are a Key Clubber?” I
received a short article
from a Key Clubber
named Charlotte from
Parkland!
Get those thinking caps
on and those creative
juices flowing! Articles are
due by September 1st and
the most creative article
or two will be featured in

“People know I am a Key
Clubber because of my
smile! Whenever I am
doing community service, I
have the biggest smile on
my face! People I help call
it my service smile! That’s
how people know I am a
Key Clubber.”
Club Feedback
In my previous newsletter, I
stated I would be starting club
monthly reports that month.
I’ve decided the most
practical idea would be to
start the reports during the
school year when you readily
meet. These reports will tell you
all the good things you have
been doing and the areas
where you need
improvement. I am hoping this
new form of communication is
easier for everyone so all the
officers know what they need
to do. Also, everyone loves
when their club gets
complimented!
At the end of the report,
you will have the
opportunity to evaluate
me! I know you do that
during your club monthly
reports but this is your
chance to tell me directly,
to be in depth, and to be
completely honest. You still
have to evaluate me in
your club monthly reports!
The feedback for your club
will be emailed to you all at
the 25th of every month
starting September 25th!
Do you have a burning
question about Key Club,
the duties of a
Lieutenant Governor, or
just life in general? Well
you came to the right
place because I have all
the answers! Actually, I
don’t but I can help!
This column is made for
you; club advisers, officers,
and members. Send in your
comments, questions,
concerns to
(484) 661-9120. You have
the option to remain
completely anonymous or
you can reveal your first
name and club.
Don’t be shy! Everyone
has a question that
needs to be answered!
