Who is Jack Clark?

Jack grew up right here in the valley. His life of service began in the United States Army, where he served as a Criminal Investigator. Upon returning home, Jack joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, where he has served for the past 23 years. Jack also served on the Henderson City Council for 16 years. During Jack's time on the council, Henderson received numerous National awards. Henderson boasts the lowest crime rate of any major city in Nevada. Henderson was listed by Money maga-zine as one of the top 20 cities in America, and was awarded the National Gold Medal for it's parks and recreation department. These things do not happen by accident. It takes a dedicated professional. Jack has a lifelong record of service.

So what does the Public Administrator do?

The Clark County Public Administrator is an elected Officer entrusted to oversee the administration of the estates of persons deceased in Clark County who have no qualified person willing and able to administer.

Candidate for Public Administrator

Our Speakers

“Quality Education is the key to the success of children. Their future is in our hands. Please elect me Barbara Altman, to School Board District F” Barbara Altman, Candidate

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Barbara attended Brooklyn College as a Major in Psychology with a Minor in Philosophy. Barbara was married for 37 years and has two daughters, Kelly and Brook, and three grandchildren; Alex, Max and Harrison. With a mind for business, Barbara was responsible for her husband’s company billing department for 14 years and operated her own jewelry business for 15 years. A proud resident of Las Vegas for over 5 years, Barbara has brought her passion for family and business to Southern Nevada. Barbara’s interest in education began when one of her grandchildren were diagnosed with a learning problem. The school ignored the parent’s request for assistance, saying that the only problem was bad behavior. Finally, a child advocate and attorney sued the city and won, allowing Barbara’s grandchild to receive the fully funded education he was entitled to.

REMEMBER FLAG DAY JUNE 14TH

Flag Picture Gallery

Betsy would often tell her children, grandchildren, relatives, and friends of the fateful day when three members of a secret commit-tee from the Continental Congress came to call upon her. Those representatives, George Washington, Robert Morris, and George Ross, asked her to sew the first flag. This meeting occurred in her home some time late in May 1776. George Washington was then the head of the Continental Army. Robert Morris, an owner of vast amounts of land, was perhaps the wealthiest citizen in the Colo-nies. Colonel George Ross was a respected Philadelphian and also the uncle of her late husband, John Ross.

Naturally, Betsy Ross already knew George Ross as she had married his nephew. Furthermore, Betsy was also acquainted with the great General Washington. Not only did they both worship at Christ Church in Philadelphia, but Betsy's pew was next to George and Martha Washington's pew. Her daughter recalled, "That she was previously well acquainted with Washington, and that he had often been in her house in friendly visits, as well as on business. That she had embroidered ruffles for his shirt bosoms and cuffs, and that it was partly owing to his friendship for her that she was chosen to make the flag." (For full text, see Affidavits.)

In June 1776, brave Betsy was a widow struggling to run her own upholstery business. Upholsterers in colonial America not only worked on furniture but did all manner of sewing work, which for some included making flags. According to Betsy, General Wash-ington showed her a rough design of the flag that included a six-pointed star. Betsy, a standout with the scissors, demonstrated how to cut a five-pointed star in a single snip. Impressed, the committee entrusted Betsy with making our first flag.

Until that time, colonies and militias used many different flags. Some are famous, such as the "Rattlesnake Flag" used by the Continental Navy, with its venomous challenge, "Don't Tread on Me. Another naval flag had a green pine tree on a white background. The one shown here is the

"Liberty Tree" flag.

According to Betsy Ross's dates and sequence of events, in May the Congressional Committee called upon her at her shop. She fin-ished the flag either in late May or early June 1776. In July, the Declaration of Independence was read aloud for the first time at In-dependence Hall. Amid celebration, bells throughout the city tolled, heralding the birth of a new nation.
