PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE…

As I write this, we are in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic with steps being taken to modify our daily lives. This is an unprecedented time in our lives and I hope it brings more caring and respect to each of our members as we proceed from here. If any member has any needs please contact me or the board to do

what we can do for you – bring groceries to you, bring meds to you or video call to paint with you in your home. Don’t hesitate to ask! We are here as a group who love to paint but also want to be there for our friends who have a love of painting.

The Water District has sent a notice to say they have closed their building to business and for rent indefinitely. As a result, the April paint-in will be postponed. I am in close contact with the Water District to see when they might open. We will keep you posted via email and social media.

The Imaginology program has been canceled as well as the SDP May Retreat in Wichita. You may have received notices about other cancelations so keep a close eye on things as we continue through this process. OCTDP postponed their Shara Reiner seminar and PHP postponed their Mystery Paint In, so life is definitely in flux right now.

To help us ensure more information with the minutes of the Board and the General meetings we will start recording these meetings. The how we will record I am not sure of as of this moment, but I did want everyone to be aware of this change.

Please know we are working on things such as the seminar for 2021 that is budgeted for and review of the By-Laws and Standing Rules – any input you have on those topics please send Seminar thoughts to Maureen Kleinman and send anything on the By-Laws to me, Carol Ganzi or Linda Martin.

We have moved out of our storage area and into part of Robyn’s storage area which will reflect a huge savings for the year – thanks for the support of this decision and to Robyn for the physical opportunity of shifting everything.

At this point, we will continue with our Programs and the OC Fair but will inform you of any changes as they occur.

Please wash those hands and stay healthy and again let us know if you need anything... Happy Painting, Sherry

“Giving is not just about making a donation. It is about making a difference.” Kathy Calvin

I would like to expressly thank all for the generous donations to our February raffle, we raised $100.00. I would also like to thank those who added to our donations, Fran

for her beautiful paintings (you will see those later), Ruth for items from her library job, and the beautiful journals, I’m sorry to say I can’t remember who gave them to me, must

be old age! Let me know who gave them to me, I want to recognize everyone for their generosity.

It truly means so much for our chapter if everyone helps with the spirit of giving. Our next raffles will be in June and July if we are able to paint those months.

OC Fair 2020 Although the April Imaginology has been canceled due to the COVID-19 virus, the OC Fair is still planning to go on. Please use this time as an opportunity to work on your projects for the OC Fair and our October Decorative Painting month when we display our painted works at the Mission Viejo and Santa Margarita Libraries. I’m sure June O’Connell would love to have new items for her displays.

If you have UFOs that need to be finished you can enter them in the fair. They are looking for items that have been completed within the last two years!! So even if you started it years ago and finished it today, you can enter it.

The competition is open to all who live in Southern California. Deadline for submissions is May 29th by 6 pm. Delivery is June 27th between 8 am and 6 pm and the pick-up will be August 18th from 7 am to 7 pm.

Please go to https://ocfair.com/oc-fair/competitions-contests/ Hobby and Craft division and read the guidelines so you are entering into the correct divisions. As a reminder, paintings on canvas or framed paintings are considered fine art and will be rejected.

I will be glad to drop off and pick up your items if you cannot.

Happy Painting Linda Martin OC Fair Chair

PACIFIC COAST ARTISTS General Membership Meeting Minutes March 8, 2020

Meeting was opened by President, Sherry Choquette at 12:45 p.m.

PROGRAM CHAIRPERSON: Robyn McComb reported that there are 13 members signed up to participate today. Next month, (April) will be a strokework piece with Sherry Choquette. June is the Spring sign and Robyn has the wooden sign for $5.00.

The July meeting will be the Christmas ornament class. 9 ornaments have been submitted for consideration. Voting took place after the meeting.

FUNDRAISING CHAIRPERSON: Linda Silvasy shared about the baskets for raffle today. She will also have baskets in June. The end-of-the-year raffle has some wonderful pieces and should be a successful raffle.

MEMBERSHIP CHAIRPERSON: Carol Ganzi, by telephone, reported that we have 32 members. We had a new member join during the meeting and now have 33 members. Her name is Esther Carrion.

TREASURER: Onya Tolmasoff reported that we have $6,316.84 in the bank account.

AUDIT – Maureen Kleinman chaired this committee. The audit, although seen by the Audit Committee to have errors, was accepted by SDP as submitted. The Audit Committee did request documents from the past Treasurer and some, but not all, were sent.

Sherry explained the SDP does not define the process “audit” as a dictionary would. Audit is seen by SDP as a brief financial review.

PROJECTOR – The projector did not work correctly during the first half of the meeting. After some discussion, Onya said she would take it home and have her son check it out.

BUDGET – The projected budget for the year 2020 was printed in the March Newsletter for all to see. Onya asked for corrections or questions. None were expressed.

Robyn McComb made a motion that we accept the budget as printed in the recent newsletter. RoseAnn Linsley seconded the motion. It was approved.

CHARITY: June O’Connell stated that she is collecting for Orange County Outreach for things to make Easter Baskets for children. She will also take money.

PUZZLES: Linda Martin was in contact with the Scroll Saw group and she has been given some puzzles that need to be painted. These puzzles will be given to children at Christmas. If you take a puzzle, please sign your name on the list, indicate how many and which ones you took. The deadline is October.

DECORATIVE PAINTING MONTH: June O’Connell is in touch with the libraries and will have dates, etc. when we get closer to October.

IMAGINOLOGY: Linda Martin needs volunteers to help with this event. There is a sign-up list available on-line or you can see what is needed as the schedule is posted at the sign-up table in the painting room.

ORANGE COUNTY FAIR: Linda Martin asked that those interested to please check the PCA March newsletter. May 29th is the deadline for submissions.

General Membership Meeting Minutes - continued…

CHRISTMAS PARTY: Plans are underway for this event. Volunteers have come forward and all tables will be decorated. The following have volunteered to decorate a table: RoseAnn Linsley, Carol Ganzi and Sherry Choquette, Linda Silvasy, Robyn McComb and Onya Tolmasoff.

HOSPITALITY: We still need a Chairperson for this position. Robyn got paper goods for this meeting and took care of volunteers bringing food for lunch.

OLD BUSINESS:

STORAGE: Sherry shared that Robyn has offered space in her personal storage for the Chapter to store the excess items after the tables were taken by members to store. Thirty-day notice was given and we will be out by the end of March. A discussion followed about the excess and how much has to be moved. Linda Silvasy made a motion that we pay for space in Robyn’s storage. The motion was seconded by Fran Wilson. It was approved. The amount, approximately $25 - $50, will be determined by Sherry and Robyn after items are moved and the area is determined.

NEW BUSINESS:

BY-LAWS and STANDING RULES need to be reviewed. Sherry will head this committee. Linda Martin and Carol Ganzi volunteered to be on the committee.

SEMINARS: Sherry stated that a deposit has been set aside for a possible seminar this year. It was emphasized that a seminar chairman must come forward before any plans proceed, other than questions about interest. Questions were asked, “Do we want to have one?” and “What kind do we want to have?” Colored pencils was suggested and did receive some interest. Maureen Kleinman suggested that we share with another Chapter. Esther, the new member, had experience in a different Chapter. She shared some of the experiences. She said costs were split and that the profit was split between the two Chapters. They each realized $1,000. Maureen agreed to use the Chapter contact list to seek interest in sharing a seminar with our Chapter.

EMERGENCY LIST: Sherry suggested that an Emergency List be posted at each meeting. Some discussion followed.

MEETINGS: Sherry asked that if any board member or general membership person calls together a meeting, the President must be informed but she has the discretion to attend or not. Any representation on behalf of the Chapter or PCA business should be done with the informed consent of the President.

There being no further business. Onya Tolmasoff made a motion that the meeting be adjourned. It was seconded by RoseAnn Linsley.

Meeting adjourned at 1:28 p.m.

Respectfully submitted by:

Ruth Bradley Secretary
