Battle Of Midway● May 1942- June 4, 1942● Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto sought to

draw the US Pacific Fleet into a battle where he could overwhelm and destroy it.

● The US attacked First and sunk four Japanese carriers, forcing Yamamoto to withdrawal.

● Marked the turning point of WWII in the pacific.

Island Hopping ● Movement from the US led by General Douglas

MacArthur, and Admiral Chester W. Nimitz.● Strategy to get closer to Japan and the

surrounding Islands. ● First attack -> February 1945 -> Bloodiest island

hopping attack in April. ● US soldiers were not use to that kind of war, they

got infected with different illnesses such as Malaria, dysentery and skin fungus.

Significance of the Pacific War. ● The US was able to defeat Japan and overall

thanks to all these wars that are part of the Pacific War The US and its allies were able to win WWII.
