Tuesday Night Faith Formation invites you to a new faith formation program
every Tuesday Night at 7:30pm!
May 29: Mary in Byzantine Doctrine and Devotion Presentation will be given by Fr. Walter Rybicky, OSBM
June 5: The last session for the academic faith formation year. Will resume on Tuesdays in the Fall.
There is no cost or registration. Refreshments are provided with every session. Sponsored by St. Josaphat Council #8441 Knights of Columbus.
The Meaning of Holy Communion
In the Mystery of Holy Communion, Christ gives us His very self, His Body and Blood as nourishment for our growth in the new life. Receiving Communion in the
Lord's Body and Blood, we receive the pledge of life eternal; "Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have
eternal, and I will raise them up on the last day." (Jn 6; 54) The Holy Eucharist most fully manifests and creates our communion with God and others. All who have communion
with Christ become "one body in Christ, and individually we are members of one another." (1 Cor. 10; 17) In the Incarnation, Jesus received a body from the Virgin
Mary, and in the Eucharist He offers it to His disciples as nourishment, so that in the Church all humanity and all creation may become His Body. "I have willed
to become your brother. For your sake I shared in flesh and blood, and in turn I give you the flesh and blood by which I became your kinsman." (St. John Chrysostom) At
the Liturgy, just at the Last Supper, Christ offers us a communion not of simple bread and wine, but of His true Body and Blood. The fact that we receive the actual
Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist is the pledge of hope in the resurrection of our bodies.
In the Eucharist, Christ offers us participation in His life. Through Holy Communion we achieve a divine likeness: we receive Christ in our lives, and Christ makes us
partakers of the divine nature. Consuming the Holy Gifts, we communicate in the Body and Blood of Christ. We become similar to Christ and acquire a divine way of
thinking: as God granted Himself to us, so we, in fully giving ourselves to God and to others, have life eternal. Through communion in the Body and Blood of Christ, our
life is fully in God: "It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me." (Gal 2; 20) (Christ our Pascha. Catechism of the Ukrainian Catholic Church)

You are invited to help organize Ukrainian
American Teachers in Michigan. This effort,
in addition to social interaction with other
teachers, will provide understanding on how
issues like the Holodomor are taught in Michigan Schools and
what may be done about it.

+ In Memory of Irene (Orysia) Lonchyna
The family of Irene (Orysia) Lonchyna
extends its gratitude to Fr. Mario for the
use of St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic
Church for funeral services, to Fr. Walter for his visits to our mother the last few
years of her life, bringing her the Sacraments, and to
both priests for celebrating the Divine Liturgy and
Panakhyda.
