Reasons Not To Mess With Children

(2) A Kindergarten teacher was observing her classroom of children while they were drawing. She would occasionally walk around to see each child's work. As she got to one little girl whowas working diligently, she asked what the drawing was. The girl replied, 'I'm drawing God.' Theteacher paused and said, 'But no one knows what God looks like.' Without missing a beat, orlooking up from her drawing, the girl replied, 'They will in a minute.'

From the East

.Greetings Brethren,

July has been an exciting month, although a very hot andstormy!

Our Friday family night on July 11th included a veryentertaining movie "Tooth fairy", served up with lots ofcandy and popcorn. The fellowship was even better thanthe movie! The evening offered much improvement overthe family get together, most notability "comfortablechairs"! Don't miss out on the family night fun next month,Friday, August 15th!

Our candidates are diligently practicing and preparingthemselves to return their catechism next month, with theMaster Mason degree scheduled for September 20th. The degree will be held Saturday morning with doughnutsand coffee at 8am, degree starts at 9am. We will break forlunch around noon with pulled pork sandwiches and sides. Then finish the degree around 2pm. We have an estimated 14 candidates for this degree and canuse all the help we can get to make this an event to remember.

We had our official visit from the DDGM on the 28th, a very special and inspirational messagewas delivered by the RW Fred Gerdom, the Deputy District Grand Master. Our rainbow girls are having a boxed lunch on August 11th, call or come by for an $8 lunch tosupport the rainbow girls.

I had the honor of presenting a 65 year pin and plaque to brother Robert "Bob" Edie on July 31st. This was a true honor to be able to present this to such a dedicated mason.

Hope to see everyone at the next stated meeting, August 11th.

Fraternally,

R. Randy AldridgeWorshipful Master_____

From the Great Word

Genesis 1, 14-18

14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to dividethe day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.

16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night:he made the stars also.

17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,

18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God sawthat it was good.

MASONIC EDUCATION

Do You Have To Wear A Master's Hat?

Stetson Homburg Felt Hat

Stetson - The Homburg - Classic Fur Felt Dress Hatby Hartford York

Masonic hats worn by the Master of the Lodge signify his authority of his rank andstatus...the origins of which go back over many centuries.

The wearing of a hat by the Worshipful Master alludes to the crown that adorned thehead of King Solomon.

In the United States, a Stetson Homburg or Fedora style hat is quite popular and isoften chosen by the Master of the lodge. Other hat brands and styles are also worn.

Albert Mackey, Masonic researcher and historian had this to say about Masonic hats inhis Revised Encyclopaedia of Freemasonry, 1929: To uncover the head in thepresence of their superiors has been, among Christian nations, held as a dutifulobligation. Among Eastern nations, it is their custom to uncover their feet when theyenter a place of worship.

Kings: Historically, Kings wore crowns to denote their rank, while the courtiers standingaround him removed their hats in deference to his superior status.

Ancient Romans We are told that the ancient Romans prayed with their head coveredor veiled. The woolen cap, called a pileus, was allowed to be worn only by thefree-by-birth or manumission (papers with which one is formally released from slavery),but it was forbidden for Roman slaves to wear this cap.

House of Commons - London Historically, it was customary that a member of theEnglish Parliament, London's House of Commons, wear a hat when he addressed themembership of the House. If he were to have risen to speak without his hat, othermembers would greet him with cries of "Order, Order"!

France In France, it was the custom of monks at the Sorbonne, (previously called theUniversity of Paris which was founded in 1257 by Robert de Sorbon) to remove theircap when a member did not wish to speak or was in token of agreement with theothers.

(End of Mackey quote from Mackey's Encyclopedia of Freemasonry, 1929)

Masonic Hats: United States:

Today, Masonic hats are worn, ceremonially, in the United States during the time whenthe lodge is in session. Some Grand Lodges require that the hat be constructed with abrim. Others simply decree that the Worshipful Master remains covered at all times.

Internationally: In different jurisdictions around the world, it is also common to seemany different styles of Masonic hats.

Worshipful Master Hat:

Q: Does the Worshipful Master have to wear a Masonic hat?

A: No. Masonic hats are the privilege of the Master of the Lodge, and only his. To remain with his head covered to signify that his is the position to which the greatest respect should be paid. If in doubt, however, contact your Grand Lodge for more information about your specific jurisdiction.

The Worshipful Master of a Lodge holds the most honored, prestigious and sacredlyheld chair of office during his term.

The Worshipful Master's position (not the man, himself) is one of the 3 Lesser Lights

The 3 Lesser Lights of a Lodge are the Sun, the Moon and the Worshipful Master.

As the highest ranking officer within the lodge, it is the duty of the man holding thisoffice to preserve the solemnity and respect of this ancient and historic position, symbolic of his duties as one of the Lesser Lights.

While Masonic hats differ within jurisdictions around the world, Masonic hats are avisible symbol of the Master's authority, and as such, should reflect a respectful, classicor traditional style.

Part 5Boring Our Members To Death By Christopher Hodapp (author of “Freemasons for Dummies”)

Leadership has no age, and there are no limits on imagination. But a lodge has to meansomething to its members. It has to remain part of their lives, every day, every week, everymonth. Because once it's more fun, or less hassle, to stay squeezed comfortably in the LazyBoy, curled up with a remote control, than it is to go to lodge, we have lost them. No one wouldever voluntarily join a memorization club, and no one wants to join the oldest, greatest, mostlegendary fraternal organization in the world, only to be sentenced to a lifetime of cold cutsandwiches made with suspicious meat, generic cola, and monthly meetings of nothing butminute-reading, bill-paying and petulant sniveling over why no one comes to meetings anymore.Be honest with yourself. What rational human being seriously wants to go to the trouble ofleaving home to go and listen to someone spend twenty minutes reporting that nothinghappened at last month's meeting either?

It will be the lodges that provide programming for their active members - whatever their agemay be - that will survive and prosper into the future. But those that stubbornly cling to thenotion that lodge is no event, that lodge is just one more meeting to be borne, that lodge is thatmost terrible of things, Ordinary - those are the lodges that will literally bore themselves todeath. Those are the lodges that will slip silently away in the night. And the shadows of thingsthat Might Be will have faded into the concrete Reality of a deserted lodge room.

"Ghost of the Future!" Scrooge exclaimed, "I fear you more than any spectre I have seen. Butas I know your purpose is to do me good, and as I hope to live to be another man from what Iwas, I am prepared to bear your company, and do it with a thankful heart."

Perpetual Members are members

whose dues are forever paid. To

become a Perpetual Member, contact

the Secretary, who can provide the

special application form. Perpetual

Membership cost is 20 times the

amount of annual dues, currently

$45.00. A lump sum payment of

$900 could be made, or the payment

can be made over a five year period.

After an initial payment of $200, four

annual payments of $175 would

complete the total payment.

Think about helping yourself and

helping Lodge at the same time!

Consider becoming a Perpetual

Member so your dues amount will be

fixed, even if annual dues are raised.

If you should pass on to the Celestial

Lodge, your home Lodge will have the

benefit of your dues payments. So,

please, consider it- it’s a W IN / W IN

situation!!!

Boosters’ names are listed for 12 months for a donation of $10.00. The funds help to defray the cost ofprinting and mailing the Trestleboard. The number after the name is the expiration date of the recognition period. (Those names in bold print will soon be removed from the list.) Boosters, pleasecontinue your support!

Note from the Trestleboard Editor: The annual cost for USPS mailing to each member is:

-The cost of 12 stamps is now $ 5.88. -The cost of printing 40 Trestleboards in black on white was about $ 25.00 in June. -Additional cost was required to color print the District calendar.

(That was discontinued in May, key info was included with Lodge CalendarAt last count in June, 62 members receive the Trestleboard by email and 37 members received it

by USPS mail. Three members currently do not have valid addresses.

Help the Lodge save money by receiving the Trestleboard via email instead of through the U.S. mail. The email Trestleboard has no page limit and is published in color. To cut down on printing cost theTrestleboard is limited to 3 pages(doublesided) and is printed in black and white.
