AMERICAN LEGION “GIFTS FOR YANKS” PROGRAMTo date, no personal donations have hit our post office mailbox, but on Christmas morning a check for nearly $300 will be given to the Department of Ohio during their short meeting, after handing out gifts to veterans at the Chillicothe VA Medical Center.

Rich Queen, Gifts for Yank Chairman

CHRISTMAS MORNING AT CHILLICOTHE V.A.On Christmas morning, join other legionnaires as we distribute gifts to veterans at the Chillicothe VA. The gifts are provided through the American Legion of Ohio's “Gifts for Yanks that Gave Program”.We meet at American Legion Post 144 (S. High St., Columbus) and depart for the VA 7:30 AM. Coffee and donuts are normally available at Southway, as well as at the VA staging area. Once instructions are given, we leave the staging area (about 9:00 AM) for the wards and hand out the gifts. Afterward, you may leave for home or stop by Chillicothe Post 62 for breakfast and a short legion program. We are normally home by noon.

A LEGIONNAIRE'S EXPERENCE (HUMAN INTEREST ITEM)On November 20, I traveled to the Pentagon to compete in the Air Force Wounded Warrior Games. I participated in the 2nd Annual Seated Volleyball tournament for Wounded Warriors V-Ball teams. We (the Air Force team) finished 5th place and had a fun time competing against the other branches of the military. I am already looking forward to next year's competition. This year's winner was the Army, which now has the trophy and bragging rights until next year.

2nd Vice Commander, Corey Carter

Report from President Mary Lee MercierAs our Holiday season approaches, let us all pause and be thankful for this great Country we live in and for our freedom. Make an extra effort to share as many smiles as you can – it may be the only one the recipient receives that day. Be kind to one and all – we all have “bad hair days!” Show your love for family and friends more frequently. Rejoice in the birth of our Savior. Enjoy this very special season.

Our unit core of worker bees has been very busy - please see the report from first Vice Connie Buckley. Our thanks to her for planning and chairing our monthly bake sales and craft sale. Thank you Connie – please know we appreciate your hard work and dedication. Thank you to all you wonderful ladies who made those delicious baked goods and beautiful craft items. .We have shown that we can survive, at least temporarily, without a Post Home. Thank you to Thelma Allemang, Nancy Moore, Marge Dougherty, Thelma Kesler, Linda Gano, Helen Adkins, Jane Domer and Dottie Queen for all your help with the post dinners at the Senior Center. It is my honor to be the president of such a wonderful group of devoted ladies.

MONTHY BOARD MEETINGS: PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR UNIT VOTED TO CHANGE THE DATE AND TIME FOR OUR BOARD MEETINGS – they will be held on the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 before our General Meeting for at least the remainder of this year. At this time, this is a temporary change and we will resume third Thursday board meetings when we get our own post home or sooner if it seems necessary.

THERE WILL BE NO MEETING IN DECEMBER; members voted to cancel our annual Christmas Ladies Night Out this year which was held the evening our General Meeting. Hopefully the weather will be appropriate to hold our January and February meetings. If the weather is iffy, please call a Board Member before you come. We want all our members to be safe. There will be no Post Dinners at the Senior Center in December, January and February. We will resume serving dinners on the third Friday in March.
