The Secret Garden

Director’s Note The touching story of The Secret Garden and the beautiful moving musical score brought me to tears the first time that I saw it years ago in New York. I am so happy to be able to bring this incredible production to The Performing Arts Factory with Jonas Dawson as the Musical Director and Orchestra Conductor and this phenomenally talented cast.

Susan Thornton Director, The Secret Garden Artistic Director, Other Voices Theatre

Past Roles include Leo Bloom (The Producers), Tulsa (Gypsy), and Cliff (Cabaret). He wants to thank his parents and girlfriend for their love and support! David Chiarenza (Ben Weatherstaff): is happy to be returning to the Other Voices stage and working with this wonderful cast. He has been involved in numerous productions in Frederick, Hagerstown, and Martinsburg, most recently as Mister Salt in OV's production of Willy Wonka earlier this year. Favorite shows include Camelot, 1776, Lying In State, and I Love You Because, among many others. Desiree Denton (Martha): is thrilled to be playing the role of Martha in her first Other Voices show. She is an alum and teacher at Middletown High School with a B.A. in Communications and Theatre Arts. She credits her talents entirely to the guidance of many incredible educators. Currently, Desiree teaches Theatre Arts and English at MHS and privately. Desiree cannot thank Susan, Maria, Lisa, and Dee enough for their encouragement and for the many other ways they bless her theatrical life. Thanks to the entire Secret Garden company for the shared talents that made this show "wick." A wink of gratitude goes to all of Ms. D's students for their energy and passion. Heaping piles of thanks to a gaggle of amazing friends and supportive family, especially Flynn and Rhys for filling TeeDee's world with so much joy. Immeasurable thanks to my hubs, James Alvino for filling my life with love, laughter, support, and adventure. The most profound thanks to "The Big, Good Thing by whatever name you call it," for always saving me from the storm and pointing me to safe harbor. Pat thanks Susan for inviting her to work with this delightful company.

The Secret Garden

Araminta Finn (Stage Manager): Araminta made her theatrical debut as the littlest princess in the 1971 Chambersburg Community Theatre production of The King and I, receiving rave reviews as a scene stealer. Years later, Araminta would enjoy working backstage on many productions in high school and college. After a brief hiatus from theater of a few decades, Araminta found the courage to beg her friend Susan Thornton to allow her to help with a production. The rest, as they say, is history. Araminta has assisted with the Stage Management duties on several productions at Other Voices including Legally Blonde, Anything Goes, and La Cage Aux Folles. Araminta is very happy to be back at Other Voices Theatre and hopes to continue her association with the theatre for a very long time. Jeanne Lloyd (Stage Manager) fell in love with theatre in 4th grade when she played Opatuck, complete with Native American costume made by her mother. Fortunately she quickly found out she was better suited for backstage work and has enjoyed stage managing and any backstage work ever since. She loves working with Susan and everyone at Other Voices. And she loves working with old friends and making new friends every show. Please enjoy Secret Garden and thank you for supporting local theatre. Nancy Speck (Costumes): is excited to be doing costumes for this show. She grew up hanging out with her parents in community theater. She’s worked more recently with the Fredericktowne Players, doing just about every production job, but costumes is her favorite. Working on La Cage last fall got her hooked on theater again! Nancy is a retired government lawyer. She’s a quilter, and has won several ribbons at the Great Frederick Fair.
