The first thing you need to do is get in an athletic position with your knees bent and body leaning forward. Your partner should do the same in either the front or back of you. You can lock arms with your partner if necessary. First, both of you step back with your left foot, and lean on your right foot. Next, you and your partner kick your left foot forward, heel first, but don’t lt the foot touch the partner kick your left foot forward, heel first, but don’t lt the foot touch the ground. Now put the right foot back and lean on your left. This time you and your partner kick your right foot forward, never letting it touch the ground. Repeat. That is the simplest version of the Charleston, and you can add your own personal touches to it. It takes some practice but once the dance is perfected, it is a work of art showcasing the connection and harmony between two people.
