Third Area Murder in Six Weeks; St. George Man Shot to Death, Body Dumped in Colleton County by Eagle-Record Staff Terril Alexander Riley, age 25, of 341 Hudson Road, St. George, was killed Saturday in a shoot- ing at a house at 429 Reeves Farm Road, just outside of St. George. An arrest warrant has been issued for another St. George man, 23 year old Brian Alexander Richburg of 1352 Mulberry Road. It was the third fatal shooting in the area in the past six weeks. According to the incident report, officers respond- ed to the scene on Reeves Farm Road on Sat. night, July 27 and found the home vacant. Officers David Carter and Deputy Jessie Boldin said that two wit- nesses arrived on scene about 5 minutes later, telling them that the subject, Richburg, had taken the victim, Riley, to Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. The witnesses told the officers that they had been inside the home working on their music when they heard four shots ring out. According to the report, both wit- nesses said that when they went outside to investi- gate, they saw Riley drop to his knees, saying, "I can't believe that you shot me!" The report continued that the witnesses reported seeing Richburg put Riley into his black Honda Civic, telling the two men that he was taking Riley to the Walterboro hospital. The witnesses told the officers that neither one of them saw a weapon. The officers searched the crime scene for evi- dence, but found no shell casings nor blood. While the officers were talking to the witnesses, one of the men received a call from the subject, who said that he was at work. The witness said he told Richburg that he had "screwed up," and asked him where Riley was. According to the report, Richburg told the witness that Riley "did not make it," then hung up the phone. The call came in to the witness from an unknown number. The officers sent Deputy Pirkel to the St. George Kentucky Fried Chicken, Richburg's place of employment, to find him. Det. Melendez arrived at the restaurant and took custody of Richburg, assisted by Sgt. Knight and Lt. Caudle. In a supplemental report, on Sunday morning, Deputy Boldin reported that he had been informed that Richburg's car had been found around exit 62 of I-95 near Walterboro. The officer arrived on scene and began searching for the victim. The officer said he saw an open road gate at Risher Mountain Road. The officer said he entered the gate and began search- ing for tire tracks, finding a set of tracks that indicat- ed a u-turn had been made near the front of the loca- tion. Officer Boldin searched the area, finding a white object, about 3-4 feet long, that looked to be from a car bumper. He said he returned to where the vehicle had been found, and saw... Mayor Charles Ackerman explained to the council that there are grants for streetscape improvement within small towns. He charged council with gathering ideas for future discussions concerning the future streetscape development in the business section of town. Several of the council asked about the possibility of underground electrical lines and the hope of landscaping along portions of the main street. The Mayor also commented about needing more sidewalks in the town. Ackerman explained that he is once again actively exploring the options of getting funding for a new town complex. He is discussing the issue of funding with several of our local government representatives. At present the existing town hall is dealing with a leaky roof and some other issues due to the excess of rain recently. Tommy Weeks brought the council up to date on the water line progress and the heavy toll on the pumps for the water system. "They are running at capacity but the pumps are holding their own."
