OTHER NEWS

Colin Burden: Colin was a Stock Calendar Representative who moved from Forman Promotions to Lockwoods at the same time as Stuart Parker. We were informed last year that he is sadly now totally blind.

Keith Chesters: Keith underwent a heart valve replacement operation in March 2013, but there were complications which resulted in him having a further operation and remaining in hospital for several months. At the time of writing we understand he is making steady progress and the Society would like to extend to him our best wishes for a full recovery. Keith has done a great deal of work to support the Society especially in the preparation of displays for the Reunions and the Exhibitions in 2012 which is greatly appreciated.

Welcome: We would like to extend a sincere welcome to the twelve former employees who have recently joined or re-joined the Society. They are Norma Cap, Colin Edis, Ken Hawkins, Muriel Johnson, Ron Legg, Colin Parrott, Monica Richardson, Audrey Shearing, Alan Sylvester, Neville Underwood, Keith Whalley and Jim Wright. If any existing member can think of anyone who might consider joining, please forward their contact details to the Secretary.

The Walking Group: A number of Society members meet frequently at Brookfields Garden Centre to plan their next walk. This Group is mainly made up of male former Forman employees together with their wives/partners and some friends and neighbours. It is very pleasing to know that contacts between former employees are maintained in this way outside the activities of the Society.

The Original Calendar Girls: The Original Calendar Girls still meet on the last Wednesday of each month. These are the girls who worked in the Calendar Department between the years 1942-1958. In 2005 the late Ron Bramley and Howard Parker visited them at one of their get-togethers and an article and picture appeared in “Inform Two”, December 2005. One member of this group, Audrey Shearing, has recently joined the Forman Society and we hope other members will join the Society in due course. Again it is good to hear that contacts between former employees continue to be maintained by smaller groups in this way.

CONTRIBUTIONS:

We would like to thank those members who have contributed articles for the Historical Bulletin. If you have a story to relate or hold any memorabilia, please forward to the Editor.
