Finding out you’re going to be a parent can be both exciting and stressful. But preparation makes for a smoother transition.

To help, Lindsay Pinchuk, mother of two, and founder and CEO of Bump Club and Beyond, a “mommy hub,” is offering 15 mental and logistical prepara-tion tips:

• Get a bouncer. Decide who’s invited into the delivery room and let the nurses and your loved ones or partner enforce your policy.

• Be CEO of your family. When it comes to parenting decisions, listen to advice, but don’t be pres-sured into not doing what’s best for your family.

• Bump up your social cir-cle. Friends with kids around the same age as yours can be a valuable asset for parenting ad-vice and get-togethers. Event companies like Bump Club and Beyond help connect moms and moms-to-be.

Bringing a baby into the world is hard work. Accept help from friends and family.

• Shower yourself. When cre-ating a registry, don’t overlook useful items you’ll need the most. Include diapers, like Huggies Little Snugglers, which provide outstanding skin care for your newborn’s delicate skin. Wipes are also essential. Look for ones with Triple Clean Layers that are tough on messes and gentle on

skin, such as Huggies Natural Care Wipes.

• Get informed. Take an infant CPR class. Bring your significant other and anyone who will be car-ing for the baby.

• Learn basics. Find a class that teaches basics, such as how to dia-per, swaddle and bathe your baby.

• Read the manual. Babies don’t come with a manual, but their gear does. Be sure to read life-saving information like your car seat manual.

• Hug it out. Skin-to-skin con-tact with the baby right after birth helps regulate the baby’s breath-ing and heartbeat, and keeps him or her warm and prepared to nurse.

• Pack Early. Pack your hospi-tal bag a few weeks beforehand. The hospital is no hotel, so don’t forget shampoo, conditioner an extra pillow, f lip f lops for the shower, a robe and an extra bag.

• Hoard. Many hospitals will send you home with ice packs, disposable underwear and other supplies to help aid recovery. Take what you can!

More tips and expert advice are available at Huggies.com.

Still stressed? Take a deep breath and relax in the knowledge that no matter what happens, the love you’ll feel for your baby is indescribable.

If you don’t, you’re not alone. In 1986, I was where you are now- that’s why I started All Veterans Funeral & Cremation. When my Dad, a combat Veteran, died, I couldn’t find a funeral home to provide the simple, inexpensive military burial he had wanted. The funeral home tried to sell my Mother and I an expensive casket and add-ons. When I asked them about VA Burial Benefits, they told me to call the “VA.” I was frustrated and sad that no one would help me honor my Dad’s wishes. With this in mind, in 1989 I founded the country’s first “Veteran Only” cremation and fu-

neral service. We understand that veter-ans want simple, sensibly priced services and someone to handle their VA Burial Benefits. Most importantly, to care that they are veterans. We have all the infor-mation about VA Burial Benefits, National Cemeteries, and lower cost cremation and funeral services. Call us or stop by- we are always here and ready to serve you.

ATTENTION VETERANS AND SPOUSES

Do you know what your VA Burial Benefits are?Award-winning academics combined

with strong character/leadership develop-ment make James Irwin Charter Schools a favorite choice for military families. They are tuition-free public schools with private school results.

Located a block south of Wasson, James Irwin Charter Academy (K-5) opened in 2013. Its 4th graders received the highest TCAP scores in 2014 in reading, writing and math in southern Colorado. High expecta-tions, dedicated and highly trained teachers, and an instructional assistant in every class are key.

Located at Astrozon and Powers are 3 campuses:

Award-winning James Irwin Charter Elementary School has been adopted by the

1st Space Battalion. Soldiers come weekly to work individually with students, assist teach-ers, and even compete against the students in math facts. The school’s math, writing and reading scores are consistently in the top 1% of all public schools in Colorado.

Known for its single-sex classrooms, James Irwin Charter Middle School’s favorite elec-tive is Survival Skills taught by a retired Army officer.

College prep James Irwin High School has been awarded US News and World Report’s GOLD ranking and Washington Post’s award as the 8th best high school in Colorado.

James Irwin Charter Schools are now ac-cepting Letters of Intent for 2015-2016. www.JamesIrwin.org (719) 302-9105.

BE A SCOUT!

pikespeakbsa.org 719-634-1584

The Pikes Peak Council of the Boy Scouts of America has been serving youth in our area for nearly 100 years. Currently, the Pikes Peak Council provides Scouting experiences for 7,600 youth, ages 6 through 20. We operate 2 camp properties, Camp Alexander in 11-mile canyon and Glen Aspen Ranch in Woodland Park. The Boy Scouts of America’s Scouting program leads the nation and world in youth protection standards as an organization dedi-cated to keeping young people safe. Our goal is to develop character and leadership through service, learning, and outdoor adventure. The values and skills that young people learn in Scouting builds a solid foundation for their life. Our mission is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetime by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. To achieve this, Pikes Peak Council offers an experience that youth cannot get anywhere else. For more information about Scouting in your area, contact The Pikes Peak Council at 719-634-1584 or visit our website, www.pikespeakbsa.org.
