Warehousing, Logistics and

Packaging Experts,

Editorial

Dear Warehousing, Logistics and Packaging Experts,

Logmat & Warehousing South is organized by Smart Expos & Fairs (India) Private Limited focussing on material handling, storage, warehousing, logistics and transportation from 11th to 13th July 2019. We, at eCargoLog, are happy to join Smart Expos & Fairs (India) Private Limited for the Conference on Warehousing & Packaging Industry, on 11th July 2019 and to bring out this magazine for the %'!

Warehousing and Logistics industry is on a growth path now. As per % ' * + month, the manufacturing sector which accounts for 80 per cent of warehousing market is estimated to be at 739 million sq. ft in 2019 and is expected to grow to 922 million sq. ft by 2024. Tier 2 cities are witnessing demand for large sized warehousing spaces. The warehouse space leasing has witnessed a growth of 77 per cent year-on-year from April 2018 to March 2019 period.

The sectors like logistics, engineering, auto & ancillary, e-commerce, FMCG, retail, and telecom and white goods have remained the biggest demand drivers. As a result of the high demand, logistics sector is expected to grow to $215 billion by 2020.

The demand for logistics and warehousing space in India outstrips supply, as per the JLL’s latest report, titled ‘Indian Logistics and Warehousing: Tracing the Lifecycle’. The report says that the annual demand of around 32 million square feet has outstripped the supply of 31 million square feet.

The favourable investment regulations have made the deployment of development funds a lot easier than it used to be in the past. Moreover, the infrastructure status has added strength to the development pace. GST implementation has brought in a uniform tax regime and has removed the challenges relating to logistics supply chain, making it easier for operators in the space to expand across geographies.

Union Budget presented on 5th July 2019, by Hon’ble Finance Minister Ms. Nirmala Seetharaman has given push to investment for infrastructure development. Some of them are - Bharatmala phase 2 is to be launched. State road networks to be developed.

In the areas of Shipping and Inland waterways, Jal Marg Vikas project and Sagarmala initiatives are being taken up, improving logistics, reducing transportation cost and increasing competitiveness.

Public Private Partnership (PPP) in railways infra development is to be done. Measures are to be taken up for boosting infrastructure '! ; #eventually eliminate the need for a separate e-way bill.

We are sure that with all these steps being taken by the government and growth in various sectors will take the warehousing, logistics and packaging sector to new heights.

Overview on Logistics

Industry

Global Logistics Industry includes all activities of the supply chain such as transportation, customer service, inventory management, [#processing. Other activities of the supply chain are warehousing, material handling, purchasing, packaging, information dissemination and maintenance among others. $]"revenue was valued at US$ 8185.46 billion in 2015 and is expected to reach US$15522.02 billion by 2023, growing at a CAGR of 7.5% from 2015 to 2024.The market in terms of volume was valued at 54.69 billion tons in 2015 and is expected to reach 92.10 billion tons by 2024 growing at

a CAGR of 6% from 2016 to 2024. Transparency Market Research "Logistics Market - Global Industry Analysis, Size, Share, Growth, Trends and Forecast, 2016 – 2024’.

The Global Logistics Industry in 2017 is equally subject to global geo political machinations but that apart countless disruptions threaten to tip the balance of global trade as we knew it. These could be stated as follows: -

There are countless locations with compelling value propositions. Whether it is pure play distribution facility, manufacturing center of excellence, transhipment port, regional E Commerce hub or new market to sell in/ source from, retailers and manufacturers have no shortage of options. On top of that if we consider global volatility and hypersensitivity to supply chain exceptions then what emerges is that

supply chain modelling, simulation and optimisation are fast becoming core competencies.
