The six-day competition forunder-15s is set to take placeat George Campbell Tech-nical School, with more than12 teams competing, in-cluding Germany, Turkey,Japan, China, Reunion, Maliand Zimbabwe.

vides an opportunity forpeople from around theworld to experience SouthAfrican culture. It allows forinternational and localschools to link up, it buildsfriendship, it will pave theway for 2010, and givesDurban a chance to show offthe new Moses Mabhidastadium.”

THE review process of theCity’s planning document, the Integrated DevelopmentPlan (IDP) is set to come to aclose this month, culminating in the multi-stakeholder forum, “BigMama Seven” on 15 March.
The IDP is the muni-cipality’s five-year plan, which drives strategies for theCity’s budgets and perfor-mance management systemsto realise its 2020 vision.
It contains eight plans, which prioritise developmentissues, including respondingto important challenges suchas poverty, economic growth, access to services and skillsdevelopment. The documentis reviewed every year to
ensure its core values arerelevant and response isgiven to identifieddevelopment priorities.
This process began inNovember 2007 with work-shops to determine whatareas to change in the revisedversion.
UpdateIn February this year,
councillors met to considerthe document and look atways to improve its contentand update plans beforetaking it to ward committeesand other key stakeholders.
The ward committee reviewprocess is now complete andstakeholders will be meetingnext week to look at whatshould be done before theIDP for 2008/2009 is revised
and adopted in June.Sharm Maharaj, co-ordi-
nator of the event in Whet-stone, Phoenix, said: “TheIDP needs to determine whatthe community needs, notonly what officials think. Theyshould all work together inthis regard. People werepositive and it is good to seethey were enthusiastic thatimproved communityinvolvement in planning isgoing to take place.
“Many priorities were high-lighted from the workshop.Among these were basicservices, electricity andhousing.
“People are looking forwardto sessions where feedbackwould be given. It is the startof a good process,” saidMaharaj.
