Joe Barry CuP Final Today aT 3
vS.
Today’s game is the final of the Joe Barry Memorial Tourna-ment that has been played since 2005 in tribute to polo great H. A. “Joe” Barry. Joe
was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the Museum of Polo in 1999, recognized as a truly legendary player of the sport. Born and raised in Texas, Joe was a member of one of the power-house families that have dominated polo. He is still fondly remembered not only as one of the most important players of his day, but for being kind, friendly and “having a smile that came straight from his heart.” Sadly, Joe
died of a heart attack on May 18th, 2002 when he was just 58. His plaque at the Museum reads: Harold A. Barry - Elected to the Museum of Polo Hall of Fame, February 26, 1999In the tradition of the Barry excellence, Har-old “Joe” Barry, a galloping oak tree with the soul of a poet, took his place in the forefront of American polo. An impenetrable Back at 9-goals, no one could hit a longer ball or provide a more reliable presence. Soft spoken off the field and ever the gentleman on the field, polo has no better role model than Joe. A horseman practi-cally from birth, his talents with them are
renowned - a chip off the old block. As an internationalist, he played twice on the U.S.A. squad in the Cup of the Americas, and brought home the Coronation and Cama-cho Cup trophies. Six U.S. Open Champion-ships, three Gold Cups, three Silver Cups, two Butler Handicaps The trophy used for this tournament is a bronze that is a recreation of an iconic
