Griffeth, Extension Coordinator Three Webster County 4-H’ers attended a wonderful week at Cloverleaf Camp at Wahsega outside of Dahlonega June 9-13. Campers participated in many activities and met lots of new friends from all over the state during their week at Wahsega. The 4-H’ers chose what Webster County 4-H’ers attend Cloverleaf Camp family they wanted to join. Two of the 4-H’ers and the county adult leader and teen leader were Clampetts. One 4-H’er decided to be a rival Hateld. All three 4-H’ers participated in the high ropes courses, including the ever so tall climbing wall and zip line to the ying squirrel, where they were lifted so high by their friends that they could see the mountains above the trees. They also participated in classes including stream ecology, archery, forestry, and the all-time favorite herpetology where kids got to hold snakes. The 4-H’ers also enjoyed going tubing down the Chestatee River with their family groups. There was also recreation, which included basketball, volleyball, dancing, and the popular camp hair. In camp hair the campers got their hair done by counselors in bizarre hairstyles. Other recreation included pond and falls time where kids enjoyed swimming in the pond or relaxing in the waterfall. Then there was the hillbilly costume contest where one Webster County 4-H’er competed. On Thursday afternoon the campers participated in the hillbilly games and got soaking wet with the counselors. Then Thursday night all campers trekked to the amphitheater where counselors performed skits and told ghost stories. Webster County 4-H’ers who attended were Annmarie Marchbanks, Jamie Rowland, and Dustin Bell. Katherine Harris, Webster County Senior 4-H Club President, accompanied them as a Teen Leader, and Dr. Laura Griffeth, Webster County Extension Coordinator, accompanied them as the Adult Leader. for Economic Development as well as the Leadership Georgia program. All attendees are invited to enjoy cake and lemonade following the meeting. Other special highlights of the meeting will include an update on the Marion County Environmental Educational Area (Walking Trail) on the campus of Marion County Middle High School presented by Sam T. Rigdon and his associates working on the project; Goals, an update of progress and the potential impact on the community will be included; additionally, members will also be given the opportunity to nominate a business for the Marion County Chamber Business of the Year award and to approve the slate of leaders for the upcoming two years.
