President’s Letter Hello members,
Congratulations on our first Fall House Tour! We could not have coordinated a more beautiful day. We’re grateful to each of our homeowners (especially our own Andrea & Claus Rademacher, who have collaborated to create a most beautiful home... I think Andrea may have a new career as a decorator!), our partner charities (Social Service Association and SHARE), our member and signature sponsor, Janis Fuhrman, and all of our members who did their part to make this event run seamlessly! We made nearly $16,000.00 for our charities. We will welcome representatives and gift their charity grants at our November Club Day.
With your volunteerism to our House Tour you helped our club help women and children in need. Join us for our November 13th Club Day and hear how our efforts can help change the lives of those in need. This is one of the key reasons I joined the Woman’s Club; it gives me a means to help others while connecting with friends and my community. The charities we support are local, support women and children, are well run and under-supported. It is humbling to see the struggles these women and children have gone. Even a small grant can make a very positive difference in their lives.
I believe that we need to keep both our community service and the club’s longevity as our dual focus. Like all of our club’s leaders before me , I know we must help maintain the club so that it will continue as both a physical place and a productive/relevant part of our community…for our children’s children. To this end we are holding additional fundraisers that both help grow our membership interest and supplement our physical plant. For nearly everyone in this area, we know what it is to live in an old home. As you know, our clubhouse is nearly 100 years old, but looks like she is only in her forties… We just had her boiler replaced for nearly $40,000. We need electrical upgrades in our ballroom and stage lighting systems, which look like another $14,000… that is the most urgent of updates. She does need a few lifts as well; siding and gutter improvements are next.
Our upcoming Author Event, Mitch Albom’s introduction of his newest book, The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto, is a fundraiser for our clubhouse. $10 from each ticket will go toward running the event, and then to our paying off the boiler’s balance. Ruth Thorne and Gretta O’Brien are selling both White House Christmas Ornaments and the Lord &Taylor Shop Smart Do Good tickets to help pay the remainder of the boiler’s invoice. Thank you also to Jeanne Stegemann and Linda Purdy who have directly donated to the cause and to everyone who has supported all of these fundraisers with both their time and donations. I am very proud of the events we produce, let alone the impact we make on our community.
One of the club’s most memorable and touching events comes at the end of the year at our December Holiday Club Day Luncheon where we embrace the holiday season in celebration with our own member, friend and gifted soprano, Kristen Plumley. Her altruistic self shines as she blesses us with her voice and wit. Bring your favorite friends and celebrate a year’s hard work and the holiday season with us… thank you again, Kristen….
It will be fulfilling to report our successes to the NJSFWC, who then reports to the GFWC. As you may be aware, women’s club membership is down for many reasons. Keeping our membership involved in philanthropy, community service and social events is revered by our parent organizations. The annual reports we write in early January are welcomed by both parent organizations. In these reports we share our successes and demonstrate how we keep our organization alive with the skills you each bring to the table and the work you do. We are a positive example to other women’s clubs. Thank you for your time and your effort.
As always, I welcome your suggestions and help. Thank you all, Theresa

THANK YOU Many thanks to those of you who worked a shift, gathered raffle items, sold
tickets, solicited restaurant partners, contacted members for shifts, etc. for the House Tour. It was a glorious day, I saw so many smiling faces, and heard
favorable comments about all the houses, how things were run, and how happy people were that the tour was back. The tour could not have happened without
your time and effort, so thank you. We raised $16,373 for our charities! If you have any ideas about how the tour could be run better next time, please
share them with me: [email protected]. Thank you again - your time and effort are most appreciated!

Remember when your son or daughter came home from college that first Thanksgiving or first Christmas vacation? Remember the running chatter about the roommate, the sports, that one professor, the campus, even classes? Remember how thrilled you were to share all that excitement - watch your child blossom in front of you? Would you like to relive that experience, the wonder of that day? Come and listen to some of the "club's kids," those students who are recipients of scholarships from The Scholarship Trust Fund of the Ridgewood Woman’s Club. They come for coffee between Christmas and New Year's. They come bustling in, full of stories, full of themselves, greeting each other with smiles and hugs, check out the buffet table and regale us with their adventures and accomplishments. It's like watching your own kid come home. Join us on Dec. 29 at 10 in the morning in the Clubhouse living room and relive some memories of your own. (Commercial: then write us a check to help us keep helping them.) The Scholarship Trust Fund Committee: Gretta O'Brien, Jo Anne Massey, Jolene Murphy, Elena Conn, Betsy Sparrow Please accept our invitation. Thank you!
