LEADER WAREHOUSE, WINSTON, N. C. DESTRUCTIVE FIRE FLATSHOAL BATHED IN FLAME Thousand Acres of Land Burned Over?High Wind was Blowing, and Fire Blew Far. Mr. C. 0. Baker was in town Friday, and told the Reporter some of the particulars of the destructive fire which raged on and around Flatshoal mountain Wednesday and Thursday. A high wind was blowing, and the fire burned over a thousand acres of land, destroying a great lot of fine timber. Mr. Baker says that the fire would often blow as far as 400 yards, and immediately catch, the leaves and brushwood being very dry. It is reported here that Walter Jones let out the fire, being en- ! gaged in burning off an old field, and allowing the blaze to get away from him. The fire was finally checked by a crowd of men firing against it using the Dan bury road as their base of operations. Pinnacle Route 2.
