The Urban Ecology Center’s High School Outdoor Leadership Program is an exciting summer program that gives you the opportunity to develop leadership skills, gain job experience through a paid summer internship, meet other high schools students and have a lot of fun! Summer High School Outdoor Leadership Program Overview This program has five main components beginning July 8 and ending on August 23: We’ll train you! Learn leadership, mentoring, field research and outdoor skills (canoeing, rockclimbing, etc.) and more! Get Paid to Get Outside! Work outdoors helping with summer camps, field research, land stewardship and outdoor urban adventures. Work hard and have fun! Go on a Trip !: We will go on a weeklong trip and field study in Northern Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Invite your family and friends! Be part of a public, group presentation about your Outdoor Leadership experience Apply to work with us all year! You will have the opportunity to apply for a yearlong paid internship at the Urban Ecology Center. Are you interested? We are looking for teens who are, 1) excited about acting as a leader within your community; 2) interested in environmental issues; 3) motivated to act as a representative of the Urban Ecology Center; and 4) mentors to your peers, children and adults. Cost of the Program The oneofakind program is valued at $3200. Thanks to generous donors, we can offer it to qualified high school students at a very affordable cost based on a sliding scale according to family’s ability to pay (see application). Each Outdoor Leader will receive a $600 stipend at the completion of the summer program and the opportunity to apply for a part time job at the Center for the following school year.      CALLING ALL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS!!!   The Urban Ecology Center’s High School Outdoor Leadership Program is an exciting summer program that gives you the opportunity to develop leadership skills, gain job experience through a paid summer internship, meet other high schools students and have a lot of fun!    Summer High School Outdoor Leadership Program Overview

Urban Ecology Center’s High School Outdoor Leader Program is a unique, paid internship. Outdoor Leaders are a fun, diverse group of area high school students who spend their summer in the city and in the wild learning about the natural world and sharing their knowledge with others.

Work outside, get paid, have fun!

AS A HIGH SCHOOL OUTDOOR LEADER YOU CAN:

• Explore the natural areas around Milwaukee while building experience in outdoor adventure and leadership skills.

• Make a difference by becoming mentors to local school children.

• Seek adventure while exploring the ecology of Northern Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Penninsula.

• Gain job experience and learn about careers in the environmental field.

2011 PROGRAM DATES: July 5 - August 12

PROGRAM INCLUDES:

Training: We’ll train you in environmental and outdoor education, scientific research, stewardship and more!

Trip: We will be going to Camp Manitowish, North Lakeland Discovery Center, backpacking in the Porcupine Mountains, and a program in Stevens Point with UWSP.

Paid Internship: Put your skills to the test as you work alongside UEC staff and adult interns.

Public presentation: Tell your friends, family and other community members about your summer experience at public presentation on August 23rd.

2. A wide variety of environmental topics may be discussed during our summer excursions. COST OF THE PROGRAM This one-of-a-kind program is valued at $3,200. Thanks to our generous donors, we can offer it at a very affordable cost based on a sliding scale according to a family’s ability to pay. Upon acceptance into the program, each family will be asked to provide proof of income (tax return or other official document). Each Outdoor Leader will receive a $600 internship stipend at the completion of the summer program and the opportunity to apply for a part time job at the Center for the following ye ar. Program cost may be deducted from this stipend or paid in cash, by check or charge. Please check below indicating your family’s income:
