More Than Just Basketball

The whole thing started on a remote island of Fiji. I was

playing basketball with some friends, when one of the

guys intentionally pushed me over.

I fell poorly and sprained my ankle quite badly.

Now, normally I would be very upset about

something like that, and I would have shouted, “Why

did you push me? Are you crazy?!”

But this time things were different. The friend who

had pushed me over had just broken up with his wife

that morning, and I had seen the whole thing.

That he was reacting more to that than he was to the

game goes without saying.

I told myself, “There is more than basketball going

on here.”

That metaphor has stuck with me ever since.

“There is more than basketball going on here.”

Now whenever somebody overreacts or treats me

unfairly, I try to remind myself, “There is more than

basketball going on here.”

The person is reacting not just to the moment but to

everything else that is happening in their life as well.

The Challenge

However, this still left me with a problem.

The island that we were on had no clinic, no

doctors, and no pharmacy.

I went back to my room in the hotel. By this time,

my ankle had swollen to the size of a grapefruit.

The pain was so intense, in fact, that trying to walk

from my bed to the washbasin, I almost passed out.

What to do?

Since there was nobody else to rely on, I would just

have to find a way to deal with the problem myself.

The Pain Is All in the Brain

Now the question I would like to ask you is this: When

you experience physical pain, where do you feel it?

The answer is you feel it in your head!

This is totally true.

If your spinal cord were severed, someone could

stab your hand with a fork all day and you would not

feel the least bit of discomfort.

Basically, what happens is this:

The nerves in the body send electrical signals to the

brain to let the brain know what is happening in their

neck of the woods.

The brain then interprets these signals to mean

pleasure, pain, discomfort, ticklishness, or the proverbial

itch.

This thought hit me like a bolt of lightning. Pain is

just an interpretation of events!

Pain is just an interpretation of events!

Now if that is true, I know all kinds of ways to

change how my brain perceives an event.

Within five minutes, I had developed a foolproof

process for eliminating pain in the body.

I have since used this process to help countless

people, and time and time again I have seen pain levels

drop from 10 to 0 on a scale of 0 to10 in three minutes

or less.

In fact, after I first used the process on myself, I

went out the same day and climbed a mountain without

any discomfort whatsoever. I have even used it to help

women go through childbirth without resorting to

painkilling medication!

This process is now being used in many hospitals to

help patients get out of pain fast. It is, after all, drug free

and has no side effects!

Pre-check

Now, before I tell you how to do it, I want to remind

you of something you already know: Pain has a very

useful function in the body!

The body experiences pain for a reason. That reason

is very simple. It is to tell you that you are placing a

demand on the body that is unsustainable and that if

you continue to do so, the body may be damaged in

irreparable ways.

Pain is a signal to tell us that the body has been

subjected to an unsustainable demand!

So before you remove physical pain from yourself or

anyone else, I want you to stop and ask, “What is this

pain trying to tell me?” “What unsustainable demand is

being placed on the body?”

It is important that you remove this demand and not

subject the body to it, lest you sustain permanent

damage to the body.

It is important to find the cause of the pain and

remove the cause.

In my case, the cause was being pushed around on

the basketball court.

Since I had no intention whatsoever of continuing

to play basketball with angry and despondent lovers, it

was now completely appropriate to remove the pain and

have it go away.

The Process

Step 1: Quantifying the Problem

On a scale of 0-10 how severe is the pain?

It is important to assess this first so we can know

whether our process is working or not.

We want to get to 0 before we’re done.

Step 2: Color

What color is your pain? You may not have known that

pain has a color, but it does. What color is it?

Once you have identified the color, pull out a

paintbrush from the toolbox of your mind and paint the

pain a different color. If it is red, paint it sky blue. If it is

green, try making it pink.

On a scale of 0-10, how bad is the pain now?

If the pain is not less than before, choose a different

color.

Step 3: Size

Now big is the pain? How many inches or centimeters is

the pain from side to side?

Wrap a cord around the pain and squeeze it down to

the size of a postage stamp. Then wrap a steel band

around it so that it does not expand again.

Once again, on a scale of 0-10, where are we at?

Step 4: Distance

How far away is the pain? Is it near or far?

Take the pain (still a new color and the size of a

postage stamp) and move it farther away from you.

Put it outside the house.

Put it on the other side of town.

Check in again: Where is the pain on our 0-10 scale?

Step 5: Brightness

If you are still experiencing anything more than a 2 on

our pain scale, change the brightness.

Try turning on bright spotlights so that the pain is

completely whited out.

Or alternatively, try turning off all the lights so that

the pain is invisible.

Check the pain scale once again.

Step 6: The Moving Truck

Now you are ready for the final step.

Have a moving truck come and take the pain away.

It is as simple as that.

Practice

You may need some practice with the visualization. If

so, practice. It will be well worth it.

If you experience the pain again, run the process

again.

You can even anchor in a pain-free state!

Every time I use this process to remove pain, as

soon as the process is done, I tap my thumb against the

middle knuckle of my forefinger. I call this my

“morphine button.”

Repetition of this simple maneuver will anchor a

pain-free state to the action of tapping the knuckle.

Now when I feel any pain, all I have to do is tap the

knuckle; and it is the same as running the entire

process—only quicker!
