Paju Email transfer to Outlook

This guide describes how Paju emails can be transferred to the Outlook and how Paju email messages can be stored to the home computer. Instructions include:

1 Thunderbird client download and installation. 2 Setting up Paju email account in Thunderbird. 3 Setting up Outlook email account in Thunderbird. 4 Transferring Paju email messages to Outlook. 5 Transferring Paju email messages to home computer.

Note. Make sure your Outlook Email account is working before starting of transfer: http://o365.oulu.fi

1. Thunderbird download and installation

1.1 Download Thunderbird from: http://www.mozilla.org/fi/thunderbird/ (Note: this manual is only for Thunderbird’s finnish language version)

1.2 Accept file saving by clicking Save File.

1.3 When the download is finished, double click the Thunderbird installation file to start the installation.

1.4 In the beginning of installation, click Seuraava.

1.5 Click Seuraava.

1.6 Click Asenna.

1.7 Click Valmis.

2. Setting up Paju email account in Thunderbird

2.1 Starting Thunderbird for the first time, it proposes for getting a new Email address, click “Ohita tämä vaihe ja käytä olemassa olevaa osoitetta”.

2.2 In the Email installation-window, enter your Paju Email address (account@paju.oulu.fi) and password. After entering the information, click Jatka.

2.3 Click Muokkaa asetuksia.

2.4 In the opening window, enter the server settings same way as in the screenshot. Enter you account in the Käyttäjätunnus: -textfield. After entering settings, click Valmis.

Note. Make sure you remove the extra dots before the paju.oulu.fi -addresses: .paju.oulu.fi > paju.oulu.fi

2.5 Continue by ticking the box Ymmärrän riskit and clicking Valmis.

2.6 Paju Emails are available in the folders below the account name, for example in Saapuneet-folder.

If you don’t see all your email folders, subscribe needed folders: click your account name using right mouse button and select Tilaa/Subscribe. Then choose folders and click OK.

Note. If some folders don’t automatically move from Paju to the Thuderbird, move messages in those folders to different folders, for example to the inbox-folder in paju Webmail: https://webmail.oulu.fi

3 Setting up Outlook email account in Thunderbird

3.1 Click Luo uusi tili.

3.2 Click “Ohita tämä vaihe ja käytä olemassa olevaa osoitetta” when Thunderbird is proposing for getting a new email address.

3.3 In the Email installation-window, enter your Outlook Email address in the same form it was on the Office 365 –service’s activation form, e.g. firstname.lastname@student.oulu.fi or firstname.x.lastname@student.oulu.fi and your password. After entering the information, click Jatka.

3.4 In the opening window, enter the server settings same way as in the screenshot. Enter you account in the Käyttäjätunnus: in form account@student.oulu.fi. Then click Valmis.

3.5 When both Paju and Outlook-email accounts have been set for the Thunderbird, email messages are available in each account’s email folders.

4 Transferring Paju email messages to Outlook

4.1 Email messages from Paju account can be transferred to the Outlook-account’s folders by dragging them with mouse.

You can select all the messages at once in folder with keyboard shortcut ctrl + a and drag them to the Outlook-

account. You can also drag message folders to the Outlook-account.

4.2 When messages have been transferred to Outlook, they can be used also after the discontinuation of Paju email.

4.3 Paju email messages are now available also on O365-portal at: http://o365.oulu.fi

5 Transferring Paju email messages to home computer.

Alternative way to store Paju email messages is to transfer them to home computer. In this case, messages will be available only in Thunderbird and they can not be accessed with Outlook.

Note. Before doing this, you have to first set Paju email account in Thunderbird. See procedures described in the phase two (2) for more information.

5.1 Open Thunderbird and click with right mouse button Paikalliset kansiot and select Uusi kansio.. (New folder..)

5.2 Name the folder and click Luo Kansio.

5.3 After that you can go to the Paju account’s Saapuneet-folder and drag email messages to the local folder under the Paikalliset kansiot, for example to the mailit-folder.

You can select all messages at once in folder with keyboard shortcut ctrl + a and drag them to the local folder. You can also drag folders to the local folder.

Transferred messages can be read from the home computer after the discontinuation of Paju Email.
