The Take2 Thoroughbred Hunter division came to a close on Thursday with Hunter Kay riding Pauline Lampshire’s Lucca to the top honors in Ring 11. Kay, of Charlotte, NC, and the 16-year-old Thoroughbred gelding by Fit To Fight earned two firsts, a second, and third place ribbons.
The reserve champion title of the division went to Katie Haley aboard Isabel Kurek’s Talk To Me. Haley, of Colts Neck, NJ, and Talk To Me received a first, three seconds, and a third place.
The Grand Hunter Ring began on Friday morning with Cece Williamson riding Hideaway to the Adult Amateur Hunter Older Section A champion title, sponsored by Restylane. Williamson, of Gordonsville, VA, and her horse Hideaway were one of the 16 horse and rider combinations that competed for the top spot in the division. The pair took home first, second, third, and fifth place ribbons.
Mimi Moulton aboard Trip To Paris secured the reserve champion title in the Adult Amateur Hunter Older Section A division. Moulton, of Greenwich, CT, rode Privet Farm, LLC’s Trip To Paris to first, second, and eighth place finishes.
Equitation riders took on Ring 6 on Friday morning to compete for the blue ribbon in the THIS Children’s Medal 14 and Under class. Due to the large number of entries, the medal was held in a California Split format with Sofia Maskowitz and Samantha Takacs riding to the top of the class. Maskowitz rode Quantum Chanel to a first round high score of 84 and remained in the lead during the test. Takacs and her mount Cooper moved up one spot during the test, after a first round score of 82.
Second place in Section A went to Hannah Famulak aboard Emily Sukert’s Liv. Famulak, of New York, NY, and Liv received a first round score of 79. Section B second place honors went to Emma Hechtman, of Tampa, FL, and her horse To the Point. The duo earned a first round score of 78.
On the last day of the 2020 Winter Equestrian Festival, Meghan Knapic rode Best in Blue to the Adult Amateur Hunters Younger Section B championship, sponsored by Animo. Knapic and Best in Blue took on the Rost Ring to win two firsts, along with second, fourth, and eighth places.
Taylor St. Jacques, of Glen Allen, VA, and Carriage Hill Farm’s Czar Du Mesnil received the reserve champion title in the Adult Amateur Hunter Younger Section B division. The pair received a first, two thirds, and a fourth place.
DARRAGH KENNY OUT WITH A BANG IN $137,000 HORSEWARE IRELAND GRAND PRIX CSI3*
Ireland’s Darragh Kenny scored a victory in the $137,000 Horseware Ireland Grand Prix CSI3* on Saturday, March 14, to conclude a banner season at the Winter Equestrian Festival.
Canadian course designer Michel Vaillancourt built a track for 45 starters with 12 advancing to the tie-breaking jump-off. Returning near the end of the jump-off round, Kenny and Scarlett du Sart Z, owned by Vlock Show Stables LLC, broke the timers in 33.54 seconds to claim the lead and bump Israel’s Sydney Shulman into the runner-up position. Shulman and J-Boston S.E, a horse she owns together with her mother Jill, posted a time of 33.96 seconds.
“I’ve been very lucky – I had a good winter and all the horses went very well,” said Kenny of his season at WEF. “I had a great feeling coming into this winter because I have an incredible group of horses, and I’m very lucky that I have those horses.”
Kenny got the ride on Scarlett du Sart Z, a 10-year-old Zangersheide mare (Stakkato de hann x First Bride), during the horse’s seven-year-old
year. He has high hopes for the mare’s future, saying, “This is a mare that Teddy Vlock and his owner bought for me, and we’ve been slowly producing her. She’s really starting to turn a corner, and I think she’s an incredibly talented horse that will end up jumping at the highest level.
“I didn’t get to see Sydney go, but Hardin [Towell] said to me that she was very fast so I was going to have to do everything to beat her,” continued Kenny. “I was lucky I got a good shot to the third-to-last jump, which meant I could do seven to the second to the last, which I think was less than everyone else and where I won it.”
Shulman celebrated three months of hard work on Saturday after picking up the ride on J-Boston S.E in December. Her normal ride is slightly more unconventional, so it took her some time to get comfortable with the new mount.
“He is as normal and lovely as can be, but my other horses are a little more wild, so it was harder for me to get used to him,” she laughed. “He’s absolutely great. Ilan Bluman was doing him in a couple bigger classes in the fall when I saw him. He caught our eye and we’ve gotten to know each other very well.”
Of her season at WEF, which included the overall title in the Hermès Under 25 Grand Prix Series, Shulman said, “I’m very happy, this season was great. I think all four of my horses finished in the top three of an FEI class this circuit. That’s amazing, and I’m thrilled with that! It was a great winter, and I am very thankful to my team at Back Country Farm, my sponsors and John Roche. It takes a huge village to make sure the horses stay happy, sound, and keep me where I’m supposed to be.”
Rounding out the podium, Spencer Smith (USA) finished third riding Theodore Manciais, owned by Torrey Pines & Ashland Farm. Together they stopped the clock at 33.54 seconds.
Darragh Kenny and Scarlett du Sart Z won the $137,000 Horseware Ireland Grand Prix CSI3*.

Wellington Agricultural Services has been in service for over 30 years as a small-scale land maintenance service company. The company specializes in livestock waste removal, where the staff aims to deliver friendly, fast, and efficient service that clients can always rely on. Directed by Jose Gomez, Wellington Agricultural Services has expanded over the last 15 years to include a wider variety of services for clients as well as a new green initiative. The company boasts a machine fleet of 8 dump trucks, 100–yard hauler, and 3 logistics loaders. Services include one-yard garbage bin service and dumpster removals of up to 25 tons.
Through the company’s work, Wellington Agricultural Services has identified a significant problem that the community faces. Wellington’s equestrian industry attracts over 35,000 horses every single year, resulting in large amounts of livestock waste, which could potentially be harmful to the residents and the environment. This waste requires proper management; otherwise Wellington is threatened with the possibility of contaminated water and soil. As one of the largest agricultural companies in the Palm Beach area, Wellington Agricultural Services has taken the lead in tackling this issue. The company plans to eliminate illegal dumping and offer affordable dumping solutions to farmers, local haulers, and show grounds.
The demand for manure removal is extremely high and Wellington Agricultural Services is offering a more efficient way to manage your farm with the new mobile app. Manage your services, book appointments, follow the drivers via GPS, pay your invoices and more right from your phone. The app is available on the apple store and on Google Play. Your time is valuable and Wellington Agricultural Services wants to make the process easier.

In August, area college kids are typically weaseling into Montauk watering holes. Not Bridgehampton’s Lucy Deslauriers; she spent the final days of summer between Long Island and Lima, Peru, where she represented our nation at the prestigious Pan American Games. Now back at her family’s barn that’s a few minutes down the road from the Hampton Classic’s 65-acre show grounds, she’s preparing for the biggest show on her turf.
Since she was born, Deslauriers has spent every summer season out East at her family’s equestrian estate. It’s here where she learned to ride with the best of them: her parents — international grand prix riders Mario and Lisa Deslauriers. Today, Deslauriers continues her family’s legacy at full speed, soaring past some of the world’s best riders, including her father.
And while she could cash out her winnings and go on a shopping spree, who needs to when you’re sponsored by Hermès! In February, during the 2019 Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida, Deslauriers’ graceful sportsmanship caught the eye of the historic French house that was founded in 1837 as a maker of harnesses and saddles.
“The close relationship between Hermès Sellier and American riders began decades ago, particularly thanks to the collaboration of great champions like William Steinkraus and Anne Kursinski,” says Marion Larochette, director of the Hermès Eques trian métiers. Now the local talent joins an impressive team of international showjumping stars from around the world as an ambassador for Hermès’ equestrian sporting values. Larochette adds, “We are proud and excited to begin this new chapter with Lucy.”
At the Hampton Classic this month, Deslauriers and her horse Hester will trot onto the grass of the Grand Prix ring fully decked out in Hermès —carrying on the legacy of two houses with horses at their core.

WEF 10 JUMPER HIGHLIGHTSIreland’s Bertram Allen clinched the $37,000
Douglas Elliman Real Estate 1.45m CSI3* riding Lafayette van Overis to open the tenth week of the Winter Equestrian Festival. Allen continued a streak of 1.45m victories at WEF with another win over tracks set by course designer Michel Vaillancourt (CAN). Seventy horses contested the two-phase course, but Allen and his quick gelding could not be caught. They stopped the clock at 32.68 seconds, which proved to be less than a half a second faster than runner-up Natalie Dean (USA) riding Ceitasi.
Dean finished in second for owner Marigold Sporthorses LLC, with a time of 32.68 seconds, while Jordan Coyle (IRL) capped the top three in 32.70 seconds aboard Picador for owner Elan Farm. Abigail McCardle (USA) was fourth in 33.42 seconds on I&H Boogy Woogy, owned by Parot Horses LLC, and. Sam Walker (CAN) rounded out the top five in 33.75 seconds riding Coralissa for owner Marbill Hill Farm.
Also earning wins in the International Arena on Wednesday, Olivia Chowdry (USA) topped the $6,000 Bainbridge Companies 1.40m CSI3* riding Balkana du Tillard, owned by Atlas Equine Holdings, LLC, and Darragh Kenny (IRL) claimed the $6,000 Bainbridge Companies 1.40m riding Cicomein VDL for owner HKC Collection LLC.
Abigail McArdle (USA) won the $37,000 Equinimity WEF Challenge Cup Round 10 riding Victorio 5 on Thursday, March 12. There were 82 horses in the class, with 18 jumping clear over the opening track. After eight riders elected not to return, the stage was set for a 10-horse jump-off. With only fractions of a second to spare, McArdle
stole the win with a blistering jump-off time of 41.40 seconds.
The runner-up position ended in a tie between Alonso Valdez Prado (PER) riding his own Acuero and Beezie Madden (USA) aboard Abigail Wexner’s Garant. They both stopped the clock at 41.90 seconds. Canada’s Tiffany Foster took fourth on Northern Light in 41.96 seconds for owner Artisan Farms LLC, while Lauren Tisbo (USA) capped the top five riding Casco 11, owned by Tequestrian Farms LLC, in 43.09 seconds.
Samantha Schaefer (USA) topped the $8,000 Douglas Elliman Real Estate 1.45m riding Zaza Z, owned by McLain Ward, and Victoria Colvin (USA) claimed the Spy Coast Farm Six-Year-Old Young Jumper riding her own Emilion Manciais on Thursday.
Natalie Dean and Ceitasi won over a field of 71 entries to win the $37,000 Bainbridge 1.45m Classic CSI3* on Friday. Dean, 21, and Ceitasi contested the one-round speed course within the first third of the class, and they set a time to beat of 56.92 seconds that would hold up through to the end.
Finishing in second behind Dean with a time of 57.06 seconds was Israel’s Sydney Shulman riding Ardente Printaniere, owned by Jill Shulman. GRAND PRIX (Continued from Page 1)
Lindsay Brock
“He’s a horse that I’ve had for a few years now and he’s been very successful for me,” said Smith, who is a Wellington local and had his whole family cheering him on from the stands. „It’s a nice thing to get a good result at home. This horse has done a lot for me. I thought we had a good round the first round, but we left a little bit of a window and these guys are so fast that they beat you if you do that.”
Placing fourth, and earning the Martha Jolicoeur Leading Lady Rider Award for week 10, Beezie Madden (USA) piloted Garant, owned by Abigail Wexner, to a time of 34.94 seconds. Flo Norris (GBR) capped the top five riding Con Pleasure 5 in 36.62 seconds for owner Cisca Norris.
