    Insert the SIM card

    You must insert an activated SIM cardbefore turning on the phone for the firsttime. If you dont have a SIM card,contact AT&T.

    WARNING Always remove the batterybefore inserting or removing the SIM card.

    NOTE:If you already turned on your

    phone, you must turn it off beforeinserting the SIM card. To turn the phoneoff, press and hold the power button(see p. 6) and tap Turn Off.

    1 To separate the back cover from

    the body of the phone: Use yourthumbnail to release the clasp at themidpoint of the left side of the phone.

    2 Run your thumbnail around the

    hairline opening to release theupper-left and top clasps (a). Repeatto release the bottom-left andbottom clasps (b).

    3 Swing the body of the phone out of

    the back cover as if the right sidewere a hinge.

    4 To remove the battery: Put yourfinger in the recess to the right of thebattery; push the battery left andthen lift it up and out.

    5 Insert the SIM card and replace thebattery.

    6 To replace the back cover: Insert theringer switch into the hole providedfor it on the right side of the back

    cover.

    7 Press all clasps to fasten the cover tothe body of the phone.

    Power button

    Turn on your phone

    Press and hold the power button for afew seconds until you see the Palm logo.

    Wait for setup to start (please be patient).

    Cant start setup?

    If you inserted the SIM card without first

    removing the battery, your phone cannotconnect to the AT&T network, and youwill not be able to complete setup. To fixthis, remove the battery, and thenremove the SIM card. Then insert the

    SIM card and last, insert the battery.

    Set up your phone

    To use your phone, you must agree toPalms terms and conditions, and create

    and verify a Palm profile. Be sure to writedown the valid email address and thepassword that you use to create yourprofile; you will need them later.

    If you forget your password, go to

    palm.com/palmprofile to reset it. Ifyou forget your email address, go topalm.com/support for assistance.

    For tips on tapping the screen and

    entering text, see the Navigation guide(after p. 12) and the info on p. 15.

    NOTE:Do you have a Palm profile from awebOS phone that you no longer use?During setup, just sign in to your existing

    profile when prompted. All info associatedwith your profile is downloaded to yournew phone. If you are still using yourother phone, however, you should create

    a new profile for your new phoneyoucant use the same profile on twophones at the same time.

    To wirelessly sync Contacts and Calendarinfo, set up online accounts with

    providers like Google and MicrosoftExchange.

    If you dont already have an account witha provider, you must create one beforeyou set up the account on your phone.

    For example: Google: Go to gmail.com.

    Exchange: Check with your companysIT department.

    After you create an online account, setup the account on your phone. See p. 16.

    For the full list of available online syncaccounts, see the online accounts table

    at the back of the User Guide (see p. 22).A sync relationship you set up in one appis automatically set up in other apps. Forexample, by setting up a Gmail emailaccount, your phone is also set to syncGoogle Contacts, Calendar, and IM.

    Open applications

    Tap an icon to open an application.

    Launcher: To open the Launcher, quickly

    flick up twice from the gesture area tothe screen. (In Card viewdescribed onthe next pageflick up once.) TheLauncher displays all your apps. Swipeleft and right onscreen to scroll through

    Launcher pages, or up and down to seeeverything on the page.

    Quick Launch: To open Quick Launchwhen you cant see it onscreen, slowly

    drag up from the gesture area to thescreen. Quick Launch displays up to fiveicons. To customize it, drag out any iconexcept Launcher and drag in another one.

    Card view with three open cards

    Move among openapplicationsTo use an open app, tap its card.

    You can use multiple applications at the

    same time. To move among them, flickup from the gesture area to the screento shrink the app youre using. Yourenow in Card view, where all open appsappear as small windows (cards).

    In Card view, swipe left or right on thescreen to scroll through open apps.

    To close an app, throw the card off thetop of the screen in Card view.

    Find it fast

    In Launcher or Card view, simply begintyping a word, name, or first and last

    initials.Your phone displays any matchingresults. Tap the one you want.

    Tap a phone number to dial it. Or tapbeside a phone number to send a textmessage.

    To search the web, tap the text youentered and tap the search optionyou want.

    Turn airplane mode on/off

    Drag down from the upper-rightcorner of any screen > Turn on/offAirplane Mode.

    Enter and save info

    To enter text: Tap the screen. When thecursor appears, begin typing.

    To enter uppercase letters: PressShift . To turn on Caps Lock, pressShift twice.

    To enter numbers and symbols thatappear at the top of the keys: PressOption and the key for the character.To turn on Option Lock, press Option twice.

    To enter symbols like currency symbolsand accented characters: Press Symto open the symbols table, scroll to thecharacter you want, and tap to select.

    To select text: You can select text inmessages, web pages, memos, and so on.See the text selection gestures in theNavigation guide attached to this guide.Open the application menu to use Cut,

    Copy, and Paste.

    How do I save the info I entered?

    Make the back gesture (see the Navigationguide), and your information is saved

    automatically. You dont have to doanything else. If you see a Done button,tap it to save and move on. When youclose an app, new info is always saved

    automatically.

    Messaging, Web,Wi-Fi, and cameraSend a text or multimedia message

    Launcher > . If you see

    Done , tap it. Tap .Enter a contact name or number,or enter the number of a recipientwho is not a contact. Tap to addan image. Enter message text > .

    Browse the Web

    Launcher > > enter the web pageaddress > press Enter .

    Turn Wi-Fi on or off

    Launcher > > On or Off.

    When Wi-Fi is on, if your phone finds

    the network you want, tap the networkname to connect to it.

    Take a picture

    Launcher > . If is hidden, tap

    to display it. Tap . To take a picturein landscape view, turn the phone 90.

    Record a video

    Merged views andlinked contactsThe Palm Synergy feature displaysdata from several sources in a single

    view on your phone, but keeps thesources of your data separate.

    Lets say you use Google calendar foryour personal appointments and yourcompanys Outlook calendar for business

    appointments. Your phones Calendarapplication can display appointmentsfrom both calendars in a single view.

    Likewise, the Email application lets you

    display the messages from all youraccount inboxes in a single view. Andin Messaging, all your messages withthe same person show up in a singleconversation view.

    The Contacts application also offers amerged viewall your contacts from allyour accounts appear in a single list.Contacts also lets you see all yourinformation for a person in a single view.

    Transfer info toyour phoneTo transfer contacts from your oldphone or SIM card: Go to

    att.com/copycontacts.

    To export info from a desktop organizer:Go to palm.com/migrate-pixi.

    Where can I export info from? Windows: Palm Desktop v. 6.2.

    Standalone Outlook 2003 (XP only)or 2007. You cannot export info fromOutlook if you sync Outlook with anExchange server.

    Mac: iCal and Address Book.

    Where do I transfer the info to?

    Pick the accountfor example, yourGoogle, Exchange, or Palm profileaccountto receive the info youexported. We recommend that you

    transfer your info to an online account(see p. 10 and p. 16). For other solutions,see palm.com/sync-solutions.
