Palm Springs Fine Art Fair We are delighted to again present the Coachella Valley with an

expansive yet rigorously selected offering of important post-war and contemporary art. Our lineup of 55 top-tier galleries hailing from 33 cities and six countries, our most cosmopolitan yet, are showing the highest caliber of fine art.

Select from a wide range of over 300 respected artists, ranging from brilliant up and comers to the big name masters. While presenting a world-class selection, the Fair is limited in size and has a cozy, boutique flavor as to provide fairgoers with a cogent and comprehensive viewing experience.

This third edition is packed with stimulating and inspirational components over the four days to enhance the artistic journey. Opening Night Preview benefits the Palm Springs Art Museum and salutes beloved arts philanthropist Harold Matzner with the 2014 Arts Patron of the Year Award. Museum Curator Weekend RetreatPanel Discussions + Guided Tour of Fair Feb. 14-16 | In the TheaterRespected Museum curators of contemporary art from the southwest have been invited to share their wisdom during a series of insightful panel discussions. These candid and free flowing panels, comprised of savvy curators from esteemed museums, will focus on the successes and challenges of coordinating a museum show and how fairgoers can take full advantage of everything these local institutions have to offer. Participating museums include SFMoMA, MoCA LA, Lancaster Museum of Art, Palm Springs Art Museum, Torrance Art Museum, San Antonio Museum of Art and Scottsdale MoCA.

The respected arts philanthropist Harold Matzner is given the Arts Patron of the Year Award on Thursday, February 13. A 30 year resident of Palm Springs, Mr. Matzner exerts selfless leadership as chairman emeritus and vice chairman of the Palm Springs International Film Festival, chairman of McCallum Theatre, and vice president on the board of trustees at Palm Springs Art Museum. Matzner takes greatest pride in his philanthropic efforts for Desert AIDS Project, Stroke Recovery Center, Temple Isaiah and Animal Samaritans. He is also the owner of the Palm Springs Tennis Club landmark Spencer’s Restaurant.

JENNIFER BARTLETT Lifetime Achievement AwardFri., Feb. 14, 11:30-noon At her Retrospective: Jennifer Bartlett: 50 Years on the Grid

Meet the legendary artist Jennifer Bartlett, as she and her long-time gallery assistant discuss the 7 works presented in the retrospective – ranging from the 1970s to present day Bartlett began her career as an important part of the NYC artistic conversation in the late 1960’s. Over her remarkable 50-year career, Bartlett’s work has transformed in size, technique and subject matter, to include houses, statues and landscapes. This mini-retrospective of her work showcasing her unique abstract yet representational style will be explored and discussed.

GREG GORMAN 2014 Photographer of the YearFri., Feb. 14, 5-6pm In the Theater + Reception in VIP Lounge

Interview with Desert Outlook editor Will Dean. Hosted by Desert Outlook, with special introduction by the renowned actor Udo Kier. The LA based Gorman, is a leading portrait photographer of Hollywood celebrities. His work has been seen in leading national magazine features and covers including Esquire, GQ, Life, Newsweek, Time, Vanity Fair and Rolling Stone. Gorman primarily works in black and white and there have been 11 books published featuring his photography. He has also directed music videos, TV ads, and graphic design for advertisers. Mr Gorman’s photography is available for acquisition at the Fair in the Sohn Fine Art Gallery. Join us in the VIP Lounge as we toast to Mr. Gorman. Dry Heat: 4 Artists in the California Desert Thursday-Sunday

In a salute to an emerging group of artists in the desert who create smart, site-specific works about the area’s natural, social and cultural landscape known as ‘Desert Art’. This first time fair exhibition gives visitors a sense of creativity and remoteness of the High Desert, Joshua Tree and the Salton Sea region. This exhibition curated by art writer Steven Biller, presents the work of four artists, Kim Stringfellow, Phillip K. Smith lll, Cristopher Cichocki and Scott B. Davis, who are de-fining and pushing the limits of this trendy new genre.

Jennifer Bartlett: 50 Years on the GridA Public RetrospectiveThursday-Sunday

This intimate retrospective, curated by Imago Galleries, tracks the half century career of artist Jennifer Bartlett, the Fair’s 2014 Lifetime Achievement honoree. Bartlett is best known for her paintings and prints of every-day objects, such as houses, statues and landscapes. Bartlett’s early work from the 1960’s and 1970’s was fas-tidious and geometric, with unpredictable color palettes. Over her remarkable 50-year career, Bartlett’s work has transformed in size, technique and subject matter. Several works of art on display, as indicated, will be available for acquisition.

Steven Maloney’s Ride-Em Copter Thursday-Sunday

Rancho Sante Fe based artist Steven Maloney, works in a variety of media-painting, sculp-ture, collage, film. He has had several traveling museum shows, corporate commissions and individual exhibitions in galleries and major sporting events nationwide. He is repre-sented by the Heather James Gallery (booth #405). In the Ride-Em-Copter Project, Mr. Maloney has morphed animal and machine into a contemporary sculpture, by transforming

a decommissioned bone-yard Bell Jet Ranger Heli-copter and Longhorn Steer – taking private aviation to extreme heights.

Vincent Tomczyk’s Paper Sculptures ExhibitThursday-Sunday Presented by the Los Angeles Art Association

Vincent Tomczyk’s paper sculptures exhibit a genu-ineness and truth in realism. He creates replicas of ev-eryday objects and frees them of their material context in exchange for paper simulacra. The intent is to invite the viewer to consider the sentimental underpinnings between man and object without the distraction of its original function. Tomczyk’s paper sculptures stand amidst the vernacular of realism in a dialogue with conceptualism.

Tiffany Trendra performs Proximity CinémaThursday and Friday Night

Inspired by the Valie Export piece “Tap and Touch”, Trenda’s performance will focus on personal space in regards to mobile devices. The artist will be completely covered in a synthetic suit with forty small LCD cell phone screens. The image on these devices will change depending on how far away the viewer is from the artist. This interactive perfor-mance will entail having the artist invade the viewer’s personal space and vice versa, the viewer will be in the artists’ space. Trenda will remain silent, making all interaction happen with only the use of proximity and touch, making the body as the only point of interface. The texts on the screens relay the most spoken words between men and women, which include: “Go Ahead”, “It’s OK”, and “Don’t Worry About It”. When the audience touches the screen, it reveals a photo of the artist’s body (what is found beneath the red suit. The artist is represented by The McLoughlin Gallery.

Kevin Berlin with his new bride, Snow WhitePerformance Art | Thursday, 7-9pm

Berlin’s recent marriage to Snow White is a tongue in-cheek tribute to the glorious reign of Hollywood studios of the 1930’s. The dapper artist pays homage to two memorable 1930’s movies–RKO Radio Pictures’ Top Hat (1935, starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in their most successful picture partnership, with songs by Irving Berlin) and Walt Disney Productions Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937). As the first full length cel animated feature film, Snow White became the highest grossing sound film at the time. Kevin Berlin is represented by Vogelsang Gallery.

Ride-em Copter lady pilot performanceThursday, 7-9pm

Meet Shivers at the Ride-em Copter installation, the ravishing and sexy lady pilot in Escada pink leather who landed her copter to make a quick wardrobe change, with martini in hand, as she anxiously waits for you to join her, Mr. Cowboy du jour.

Local artist Penelope Krebs is a well known hard-edge abstractionist who painted huge geometric canvases during the 1980s-1990s in LA. She presents the magic of powerful lines and dramatic juxtaposed colors. She studied abstract art at UCSB under the legendary John McCraken and James Haywood. Meet Alexandra Hedison–the popular LA-based photographer–as she signs her latest catalogue, Everybody Knows this is Nowhere. This num-bered, limited edition catalogue is from her successful solo exhibition of photographs at Diane Rosenstein Fine Art in Los Angeles (2012). In “Everybody Knows this is Nowhere,” Hedison’s photographs reinterpret the legendary land-scape of Malibu, visiting the hidden terrain beneath the houses where she grew up.

He has exhibited in museums across the globe, receiving countless awards, honors, and openly sharing his far-reaching knowledge of the medium and skill as one of its finest practitioners; his career is defined by his dedication to workmanship, innovation, and collaboration–including his participation in the La Scuola Internazionale del Vetro symposia in the 1970s which brought the finest Muranese makers together with artists from around the world.

Zane Bennett Contemporary Art gallery resides in one of the most unique architectural spaces in Santa Fe.
