Upward Bound

Upward Bound (UB) is a year-round comprehensive academic college preparation, and retention program. UB provides

academic instruction, student support, and promotes academic excellence, to high-potential college bound students preparing

to attend, and graduate from a four year university, upon high school graduation. UB serves students from North County

San Diego High Schools.

UB is a federally-funded TRiO Program. The services provided

are funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Services are FREE of charge for participating students and their families.

The Summer Residential Component simulates a college

going experience and is designed to provide students with the

opportunity to enrich their academic skills in a college setting.

During the Summer Residential Component (SRC), Upward Bound

offers the following services:

Dorm at a University to obtain

the College Life Experience

College Prep. Courses

Academic Enrichment

Cultural Activities

College Visits and Field Trips

Career and Academic Advising

Leadership & Team building

skills development

Study habits necessary for

college

UB Staff works with students

individually and in cohort groups to address academic needs and to develop a college bound academic plan so that

students are able to apply and attend a four year university upon

high school graduation.

To ensure student success in the program, each UB Student must make

a commitment to do the following: College-Bound Potential &

Academic Need:

Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA

of 2.8 until graduation.

Take appropriate but challenging classes each semester.

Commitment and Motivation:

Attend all UB events, such as

College Saturdays, after school tutoring, field trips/college visits and the 4-week summer residential component.

Maintain contact with UB Staff and cohort advisor throughout the

academic year.

1. You are from a Low Income Household. (See chart below for the

Federal Income Guidelines). -and/or-

2. You are a First Generation Student. (Neither of your parents/

guardians possesses a bachelor’s degree in the U.S.).
