Successful Aging – a Big Problem: • Health care for seniors - fragmented services, high cost, and suboptimal
outcomes.
• Ignore importance of quality of life that significantly impacts health
• Over next 18 years over 10,000 Baby Boomers in the U.S. turn 65 daily – In 1990, 1 in 8 residents of Santa Clara County was over age 60.
– By 2010, 1 in 6 residents of Santa Clara County was over age 60
– By 2030 1 in 4 residents of Santa Clara County will be over 60
• Majority of seniors wish to age independently; in homes and communities.
• Array of challenges; complex health issues, potential for social isolation, and difficulty accessing existing community resources

linkAges™ Developer Challenge Create Signal Detection Solution: • Create solutions focused on “Signal Detection”
– Detection and use of signals of physical and social health of our seniors
– Tracking and interpreting data that will forewarn of impending events
• Potential to significantly improve health outcomes and quality of life
• Implementable for seniors living in their day to day world

linkAges™ Signal Detection Use Case
May 3, 2012
• Mrs James is a 75 widow living alone in a 3 bedroom house in Mountain View, CA
• In the last year she has become unsteady in her feet and has fallen twice. From time to time she gets a little confused and goes out to walk to the mall about 5 miles away
• Her daughter Jill, lives in Texas and is worried that her mother is going to come to harm and no-one will be there to help
• Conceive of a system that could alert PAMF, Jill and others that Mrs James has fallen or is wandering the neighborhood
• Better still conceive of system that will alert that Mrs James is at risk of falling or wandering, allowing pre-emptive action
