Thanks to the financial support of our parent organization Real Medicine Foundation, RMF Perú has been permanently offering health and preventative services through the Policlínico Peruano Americano (the Peruvian American Polyclinic) in the district of San Clemente since 2007, when Perú suffered a devastating earthquake in the Ica region. PAMS-RMFP Mission 2016 In addition to supporting the population of San Clemente and larger Pisco through RMF’s permanent clinic, we have held the PAMS-RMFP Mission for five consecutive years. This year, the event ran from August 30th to September 1st in the Policlínico Peruano Americano’s new facilities, organized as in previous years under the direction of Dr. Hugo Tapia.

Staff for the PAMS-RMFP Mission 2016 We had 4 volunteer doctors in primary care: Dr. Analida Palacios, Dr. Andrés Calagua, Dr. Gina Altamirano, and Dr. Joel Soriano. We had 3 dentists: Dr. Paul Medina, Dr. Luisa Reyes, and Dr. Zoraima Falcón (we also had two dental students). There was one nephrologist, Dr. Hugo Tapia, one psychiatrist, Dr. Pablo Alban, and one medical emergency staff, Dr. Thomas Gallagher. In addition, Martha Gallagher ARN, an American volunteer, provided her services, as well as Willy Chertman, who served as translator to Dr. Thomas Gallagher. Finally, one biology student, Jersson Diaz, and the whole team of RMF Perú helped staff the event. Numbers Served During the 3 consecutive days, we attended 261 patients (84 children and 177 adults). Of those patients, 208 were given medical care. This year, we had patients coming from other districts of San Clemente. Despite being a non-working day, service was punctual to all those who had a history of diabetes or high blood pressure. In total, there were 223 reviews of laboratory procedures, which were free to patients. We saw 42 patients for dental consultations: tooth extractions, filling cavities, and fluoride treatments. We also distributed free toothbrushes and toothpaste. In addition to the dental procedures, Dr. Paul Medina taught his patients about proper dental hygiene and health. For psychology consultations, we saw 4 patients. During the 3 days, 5 patients were referred to specialists in Chincha (2 for x-rays and 3 for cardiology exams). We also provided 11 women with free mammograms. Total beneficiaries of the mission: 261 patients. Organizational Responsibility The cost assumed by PAMS for this mission was a total of $1,492.25, which includes medicine, dental supplies, print supplies, and marketing literature. The RMFP team took care of refreshments and snacks for all the staff that collaborated on this mission. We also hosted the event at our Policlínico Peruano Americano and coordinated the transportation of medical equipment to and from Chincha. Donations From year to year, the PAMS mission provides not only medical personnel, but also donates material goods to RMF’s Policlínico Peruano Americano. This year, they donated the following equipment:
• 1 medical grade scale $530.00 Model 755 SECA
• 2 adult blood pressure cuffs $133.00 Riester
The RMFP team also received medical literature, pens, calculators, and agendas from Dr. Hugo. Closing Ceremony The closing ceremony took place in the auditorium of the city municipal building. In this ceremony, Dr. Hugo Tapia presented a summary of the 2016 mission, Dr. Pablo Alban offered a conference on mental health, and Mr. Gustavo Quispe, representative of the Mayor of San Clemente, gave a certificate of recognition to Dr. Hugo as representative of PAMS and Ms. Magali M. de Pujalt on behalf of RMFP.

Both Dr. Tapia and Mr. Quispe emphasized the need for the municipality to support the operation of the Policlínico Peruano Americano, and to join in the international effort between PAMS and RMF being carried out for the benefit of the population of San Clemente. RMF Perú thanks the members of PAMS, especially to Dr. Hugo Tapia, and all the volunteers who supported the success of the PAMS-RMFP Mission 2016 benefitting the people of San Clemente.
