Syrinx and Pan

Pan fell in love with the nymph, Syrinx. Syrinx hated Pan and refused him. One day as Pan was chasing her, she asked the river nymphs to change her form. She changed into the river reeds. The sound of the wind in the reeds inspired the syrinx, or pan-flute.
