For years I have been coming across many a articles, warning of this “Great Wave” of the digital content which will wipe out Print all together and put it to rest and usher a dawn of the Digital age, where no paper is wasted. With such dire warnings coming from all angles of the media, one would wonder if creat-ing this magazine was such a viable endeavor. Should I have left this maga-zine on the screen, and allowed readers to purchase a digital issue? It would have saved money on printing costs, as well as distribution. Hmm? That’s not a bad idea; this “Digital Age” is starting to sound very nice. To print or not to print is the question, the real question should be, are all these warnings based in logic and understanding of the real world market or some dream world, where we don’t need paper to convey information. I wouldn’t have started this magazine if I didn’t think print was still alive and kick like a spunky year old. Print isn’t going anywhere soon, with the physical versatility of print what’s that to hate and despise. This fist issue is proof that print is here to stay.

If Print were to die off what would the ripple effect look like? Quite a lot of dif-ferent fields rely on print media to give their customers that special touch to the their products. Such fields as prod-uct designers rely on print to give their creative packaging a unique approach to a simple box carrying a toaster or a new brand blender. Without print all packages; boxes and containers would be bland and unappealing. Which would also affect advertisers etc. Think about it, Posters are posters because they’re in the physi-cal realm, one can’t call a image a poster unless I has been printed out and “posted “ somewhere on a surface. The Internet might be a cheap and quick way to get information out but, just as its quickly be absorbed it’s quickly forgotten. With print the same information will always be there unless you toss it out. There is other field that could do with out print but the truth is as long as a physical object is being delivering or presented which could do with out the use of electricity then print will always prevail.

In this world we all have our own expec-tations of what the future would looks like, but with all the movies and pop up ads we see, it would’ve seemed that we have gone paperless already? Sorry to say it, but the answer is no, it’s far from it. What would reader the idea that paper was on its deathbed, waiting for Digital counterpart to pull the plug and put and end to its misery. Sure print media has is flaws, and an environmental move-ment in full swing, we should have been weeded off print all ago but it’s till here. Print Media has seen it’s transitions, and with the introduction of digital typeface design in the past four decades, print has become more assessable and a vi-able source of design and transference of information to the public which very important to businesses and groups. The way print is viewed by public is that, they have the option of digital media and the tactile feel of print, which to most has a more pleasing benefit, as it was not hurt-ing your retinas.

Is print still around?Just take a look into an average household in this day and age, and you would notice a ton of printed objects, from boxes to letters to magazines and the list goes on. As much as people are attached to their Blackberries iPods and Laptops, one thing they will always see the mail coming in everyday, they will always a have a connection to print media. The future hasn’t been written yet, so it could be that it’s leaning towards digital, but for now the worlds going to stand behind print as long as it can.
