Panther Post, By Principal Lundgren Week of September 30, 2019 Dear Panther Community, Last week our PK students enjoyed their first field trip to Sharp’s Farm and got to bring back their very own pumpkin! We kicked off our school-year with LSAT and PTO meetings and Coffee With the
Principal, where I shared our school’s commitment to closing achievement and engagement gaps among
students and families. You can view the slides presented by going here: https://tinyurl.com/y52hwsmr. This week
we will have our first Open House for prospective families at 10am on Wednesday. Please spread the word!

October 2019 - Bully Prevention Month
Dear Parent/Guardian, DCPS is committed to making every school a safe and welcoming space for your child and believes that families are critical partners in these efforts. October is Bullying Prevention Month; therefore, Marie Reed would like to invite parents/guardians to be part of this month’s event by talking with your children openly about what it means to be bullied or to bully. Doing so not only ensures that you and your child maintain open lines of communication, but also reinforces the importance of speaking up about problems at school. DCPS defines Bullying as: Bullying means any severe, pervasive, or persistent act or conduct, whether physical, electronic or verbal that: may be based on a student’s actual or perceived race, color, ethnicity, religion, national origin, sex, age, marital status, personal appearance, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, intellectual ability, familial status, family responsibilities, matriculation, political affiliation, genetic information, disability, source of income, status as a victim of an intrafamily offense, place of residence or business, or any other distinguishing characteristic, or on a student’s association with a person, or group with any person, with one or more of the actual or perceived foregoing characteristics. Understanding bullying vs. conflict:
• Conflict is usually about an incident and does not include a power imbalance. • Conflict means you can do peer mediation or conflict resolution. There is a single incident and it can be
addressed/resolved with one or two sessions. • Bullying is, in most cases, not a single incident. It is the repeated harming of an individual
through their personal relationships and/or social status. Marie Reed takes bullying seriously. If you have any concerns or questions pertaining to conflicts or bullying please reach out to Marie Reed’s Bullying points of contact: Mr. Taylor [email protected], Mr. Patterson [email protected], and Ms. Marquez [email protected]. Sincerely, Katie Lundgren Principal

Sr. Patterson [email protected] Sr. Taylor [email protected] and Sra. Marquez-Villegas [email protected] Atentamente, Katie Lundgren Directora
