This is My Body; This is My Blood
of the Covenant, which will be shed
for many.— Mark 14:22,24
We are grateful for the months
of preparation that our students
and their parents received at St.
James Cathedral to prepare for
their First Holy Communion.
Also Second Grade students
were dressed in their Sunday
best as SJCS celebrated May
Crowning Mass, followed by a
reception in their honor.
The St. James Cathedral Altar Server Ministry, composed
of 88 servers, welcomed 19 new servers and bid farewell
to 18 servers who graduated from High School. Jack
Roche was elected by his fellow Altar Servers as The
Grand Knight. The youth involved in the ministry are all
high achievers, leaders in the community with special ac-
complishments in academics, athletics, club work, and com-
munity organizations.
Congratulations to all our Altar Servers and may they be
blessed as they serve our parish community. In a moving
ceremony shared with their parents and the congregation,
they received the Rite of Investiture in the presence of
Bishop Noonan and Fr. John McCormick. Many thanks to
Kelly Wilkes-Hardisty and Kevin Wilkes, who lead the St.
James Altar Server Ministry .

Due to excellent performance on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills
(ITBS), we had multiple 7th grade students qualify to participate in
the highly-selective Duke University Talent Identification Program
7th Grade Talent Search! This program allows students to take the
ACT or SAT early to identify future scholastic opportunities. When
a student is already excelling on grade specific tests, the knowledge
and experience gained from taking an above-level test like the ACT
or SAT is invaluable. Above-level ACT or SAT testing provides
helpful insight into a student's academic abilities and allows effective
planning for high school and beyond. Additionally, these testing ex-
periences give seventh graders the opportunity to preview the same
test they will face during the college admissions process. Of those
that initially qualified and participated, the following students quali-
fied for state recognition: Michael and Christian.
Christian also qualified for Grand Recognition! These students re-
ceived a congratulatory letter from our Superintendent of Catholic
Schools, Mr. Fortier! Congratulations to both of them for their high
level of achievement and outstanding scores.

“Let gratitude be the

faith be the bridge you

and welcome good.”
Maya Angelou (April,
1928 – May, 2014).
The graduating Class of 2014 passed
the Light of Leadership to the Class of
2015 in a beautiful and memorable
ceremony at St. James Cathedral. Fol-
lowing the Candlelight ceremony, Fr.
McCormick celebrated the Graduation
Mass with our students, their families,
friends and our SJCS community.
As our graduates begin their High
School career, they will remain in our
prayers. May God bless them and guide
them in all their endeavors.
We will miss them, but we know that
they will live out the school motto
“Come to learn, Leave to serve.”
