28th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Cycle A) A Sunday Reflection

God calls us in His mercy. He has called us into existence; called us to faith and to being His adoptive children. He calls each one to a particular state of life where we can serve Him best. In time He will call us back to Himself to render an account of what we have done with His gifts.

Today’s gospel should give us pause. For the parable of the wedding feast speaks of the refusal to answer that call, of the freedom God has given us to say “no” to Him. Those invited—and they may be a reflection of ourselves—have found better things to do and refuse the invitation. Some even turn against the messengers. Does this remind you of persecution?

But God’s purpose cannot be thwarted. Those He so generously invited said “no”, and so He will invite others who will respond to His grace, even if some of them may seem to us as unfit. All it takes is that those invited wear a wedding garment. We may be surprised at those we find in heaven.

So, what’s the lesson here? Be attentive, for God calls each one at His own appointed time. Have your wedding garment ready, for “many are called, but few are chosen” (Mt 22:14). God bless you!

Domingo 28o del Tiempo Ordinario (Ciclo A)

Reflexión Dominical Dios nos llama por su misericordia. Nos ha llamado a la

existencia, a la fe y a ser Sus hijos por adopción. Nos llama a cada uno a un estado de vida particular donde podamos servirle mejor. En algún momento nos llamará de vuelta a Sí para que demos cuenta de lo que hemos hecho con sus dones.

El evangelio de hoy debe hacernos pensar, pues esta parábola del banquete de bodas habla de una negativa a responder a esa llamada. Habla de la libertad que Dios nos ha dado de decirle que no. Los invitados—que pueden ser un reflejo de nosotros mismos—han encontrado algo mejor que hacer y rechazan la invitación. Algunos hasta se vuelven contra los mensajeros. Es como un eco de lo que es la persecución.

Pero el plan de Dios se mantiene firme. Aquellos a quienes tan generosamente invitó se negaron a venir, así que invitará a otros que respondan a Su gracia, aunque algunos no nos parezcan dignos. Todo lo que hace falta es tener el vestido de bodas. Nos sorprenderemos de los que encontraremos en el cielo.

¿Qué debemos sacar de esto? Estemos atentos porque Dios llama a cada uno a Su tiempo. Tengan listo el vestido de bodas, porque “muchos son los llamados y pocos los escogidos” (Mt 22,14). Que Dios los bendiga.

To commemorate the last apparition of Our Lady of Fátima, the parish will hold an evening of prayer on October 13. The Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 pm, followed by Mass at 7 pm and adoration and procession with the Blessed Sacrament following. Seating is limited. Please be sure to sign up as you do for Sunday Mass. St. Hugh was excited to welcome our 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders back on campus! A special thank you to Mrs. Kelly, Mrs. Triana and Mrs. González for decorating the school and making the day special for our students.

Thank you to the HRPA for providing treats to all our students, both on campus and virtual. Virtual students are assigned a time to come for their treats, or the treats are delivered to them at home.
