Paraguay

Paraguay is a landlocked country, which means it is trapped by his 2 big buddies and Bolivia.
Bolivia
The Paraguay River divided Paraguay into 2 parts.
One of the 2 parts are called Occidental Paraguay, or Gran Chaco. The climate here is tropical.
The other one of the part is the Oriental Paraguay or the Eastern Paraguay. The climate is subtropical.
95% of the people is
in the east and
most are Mestizos
5% is in the west and only have small number of Indians (not mixed)
The minorities
in Paraguay are
Chinese, German,
Korea, and Japanese in Paraguay!
In rural life, most people
live in a one-room house, named Ranchos.
The capital city is Asuncíon.
Roman Catholic is the main religion in Paraguay.
There are many kinds of food and drinks in Paraguay and there are:
Mandioca,
Chipa,
Sopa Paraguaya
Asado,
and
Matè.
There are some cultural clothes in Paraguay and they are:
Ponchos,
Rebozos,
and aho-poi.
Guaraní people lived in Paraguayan way before the Spanish came.
In 1537, Juan de Ayolas came to Paraguay.
Then the Jesuits came and change Paraguay’s religion into Roman Catholicism in 1588.
The Spanish is jealous of the wealth of the Jesuit and they complain to Spanish King Charles III. Thus, the King expel the Jesuit.
In 1811, Paraguayans kick out the Spanish Government and have independence.

The 1st president is José Gaspar Rodríguez de Francia.
After José died, Carlos
Antonio López became
the new president.
López died in 1862
and his son became
the new president.
1864: have war with Brazil. Thus begins the War of the Triple Alliance.
There are more than 30 presidents are elected between 1870 to 1932.
1932: Have war with Bolivia to have Gran Chaco.
Fernando Lugo Mendez is the president of Paraguay now.
The HDI of Paraguay is: 0.761.
