Background of Several Parcel Shipping Companies

• United States Postal Service started in the 1700s.

• United Parcel Service (UPS), grew out of a messenger service established in Seattle in 1907.

• FedEx, is a logistics services company started in the 1973.

• DHL (Dalsey, Hillblom and Lynn), provides international Mail, Express, Logistics and Finance was founded in 1969

• Royal Mail became a state-owned corporation, in 1969

Present Condition of Several Parcel Shipping Companies

• According to Royal Mails annual report for the year ended 26 March 2006, Revenue for the year was £9.056 billion, and profits before tax were £312 million.

• According to the annual report of UPS, their revenue at the end of year 2004 was $36,582 millions and at the end of year 2005 was $42,581 millions. I.e. the revenue increased 16.4%.
