What is IB?

The International Baccalaureate Programme is a demanding two-year international programme that meets the needs of highly motivated Grade 11 and 12 students and leads to a qualification that is recognized by leading universities around the world.

To earn an IB diploma through the Diploma Programme, students must take a challenging liberal arts course of study and pass examinations in six academic subjects. In addition, students are required to take the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course that investigates the nature of knowledge in various disciplines; participate in Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) to achieve seven learning outcomes; and undertake original research, and write an Extended Essay of 4,000 words.

To earn an IB Career-related Programme certificate, students must take SCAHS courses in a career-related path (Accounting and Finance) and 2 Diploma Programme courses. In addition, CP students must complete four core requirements including the Personal and Professional Skills (PPS) Course, Service Learning, Language Development, and a Reflective Project, which involves investigating an ethical dilemma in their career area of study.

Theory of Knowledge (ToK) Course

The IB learner and his/her cultivation is one of the main pursuits of the TOK course.

TOK looks at what you know and how you know it (across fields/disciplines taking into account shared and personal knowledge).

TOK analyzes and inquires into how knowledge is constructed in different areas and the ways a person comes to know.

TOK also asks students to consider their thinking from other perspectives.

TOK is discussion based and has a variety of writing and presentational assessments.
