Parent Parking Attendance September Newsletter 2015 97% · 23rd October and children return on...

Attendance 97% We’ve got off to a fab start this year with 97% attendance. It’s really important that children are on time for school and don’t miss any learning opportunities. Our target will be to maintain or even improve on this in the coming year. See the chart on the back of this newsletter to see just how important it is. School Uniform Reminder; Please ensure suitable plain black shoes/trainers are worn on days your child is not doing PE. On PE days please keep to the following dress code; Plain black joggers Red polo shirt Red sweatshirt Trainers (branded trainers allowed on that day only) Y3 - Tuesday Y5 - Wednesday Y4 - Thursday Y6 - Friday Healthy Schools Please continue to encourage your children to bring fresh fruit and vegetables for snacks or healthier alternatives such as low sugar cereal bars or baked crisps. It has been really encouraging to see far more children eating fruit and healthy snacks at break and as part of their lunch box. We will continue to monitor what children are eating and we are more than happy to work with parents and children to encourage them to make healthier choices. 6VC kick off the term with a bridge building challenge… Parent Parking Thank you for your unanimous support in helping us make Cedars Avenue a safer place for children during key times of the day. It has made a huge difference to the safety of our children. It’s really encouraging to see more children walking and cycling to school. Thanks again for your support. Class Blogs Class blogs are now up and running. You now have a window into your child’s classroom to see what they have been learning. Teachers will post photos, videos, comments and links to share what they are learning in class. Click on the ‘Blogs’ tab on the school website to find out more. Please feel free to post encouraging comments as the children really enjoy reading them. Cornerstones Curriculum We have launched a new, creative curriculum this term full of exciting new topics for children to explore. Trips and memorable experiences will be an integral part of these topics. It has had an immediate impact on the ‘buzz’ around school. There are some fabulous topics across the year such as Scrumdiddlyumptious, Burps, Bottoms & Bile, Peasants, Princes & Pestilence and Blood Heart to name but a few. Keep an eye on the blogs and look forward to Open Evenings to see your child’s work. There will also be some parent workshops coming up soon. School Dates School closes for half term on Friday 23rd October and children return on Monday 2nd November. Wednesday 4th November - Parent meeting at 3.15 to explain new assessment arrangements. Open Evening to view your child’s work will be on Tuesday 10th November 3.15-4.15 and Parents’ Evening will be held on Thursday 12th November from 4-7pm. Mr Garcia, Miss Neville, Mrs Titchen, Miss Plumb and Miss Pickering have transformed our playground into a fun and active space. There are new basketball posts, football posts, swing ball, music and dance, table tennis table, tennis/hockey area, astro turfed hula-hoop and skipping area and a shaded quiet area with picnic benching to draw or play board games in. Something for everyone! A number of exciting clubs will be up and running soon - Watch this space… Y4’s Potions topic starts with a wow factor!
