Rotary Club Art Competition
Natalie McDaid Year 12 was delighted to be awarded First Prize in the Limavady Inter Post Primary GCSE Schools’ Art Competition organised and sponsored by the local Rotary Club. Her sculptural ceramics piece and 2-D paintings with the theme ‘Transformation’ won out over stiff competition from a high standard creative dress from a Limavady Grammar School student and a cabinet piece from a Limavady High School student. Well done Natalie!
We are sorry to be saying good-bye to Mrs Jackie Walsh who is taking early retirement from the PE Department after 28 years in St Mary’s. She previously taught in St Patrick’s, Maghera and rumour has it that she taught Mr McGilligan. She will be greatly missed. We wish her a long and happy retirement.

Public Speaking Speaking
Students from St. Mary’s and Limavady High School competed against each other in a Shared Education Public Speaking event. Year 9 and Year 10 pupils took to the stage in Limavady High School and delivered their speeches to an audience of more than three hundred. Year 10 pupils regaled their audience with tales of ‘What Really Bugs Me…’ and Year 9s debated ‘Should Children Watch TV’. It was a great day for all involved and pupils impressed greatly with their humour, knowledge and confidence. Daire Patton was the overall winner, Louise Flello was awarded ‘Runner Up’ in the Year 10 category, and Brogan Roddy came first in the Year 9 category. Past principals Mrs Mary McCloskey and Mr Glenn Riley adjudicated.

This event was organised by both History Departments and the winners were Chloe Jeffers, 8A5 and Bronagh Lynch 8M. A great afternoon was had by the Year 8 Historians.
Read the River Roe
Year 9 took part in a ‘Read the River Roe’ competition from April to June, wherein pupils were awarded points for reading a book and completing a short test on said book. Points were converted into miles and pupils had to ‘read’ their way from where the River Roe starts in the Sperrins, to where it joins Lough Foyle. The first class to reach Lough Foyle was 9Y, their success helped immeasurably by James McClements, who also won the individual prize. Special mention must be given to Kealin McGuinness 9Y and Danny Kelly 9T, who also amassed an impressive amount of points/miles. Well done to all involved.
Everyone enjoying our Sports and Fun Days
