Step 2: Mark & Cutthe Smaller Piece

Te piece, called the SmallerPiece, will end up being140 x 420 cm.

Please follow these steps to cut it:

1. Roll the foil out on the table, silver side up.

2. Draw guide marks along thelong edges. Mark every 70 cmand 140 cm, until you reach 420cm. On the top edge, mark yourguide marks 10 cm in towardsthe center. On the bottom edge, just mark along the bottom. Makeyour guide marks about 2cm long.

3. Cut the foil at the third 140 cmmark (420 cm).

4. Cut 10 cm off the top edge ofthe foil.

5. You should now have a piece offoil that is 140 x 420.

Te reason we measure and cutthis way –rather than cutting it allat once with a long tape measure–is because the material never liesflat and therefore is never accurateif you cut it all at once. Plus theseguide marks are helpful for futuresteps. Te 70 cm marks are usedto mark where handles will be

located. Te 140 cm marks areused as guides when taping thecube together at the end.Tools: markers, ruler, knife

Step 3: Mark & Cut theLarger Piece

Te piece, called the Larger Piece, will end up being 150 x 430 cm.

Please follow these steps to cut it:

1. Roll the foil out on the table, silver side up.

2. Put a strip of double stick

tape along the short edge of thefoil on the silver side. (ry toavoid putting the tape on andthen pulling it off to readjust it.Each time it gets stuck downand ripped off it gets weaker. Itsbest if you can just stick it downcorrectly the first time.)

3. Draw guide marks along thelong edges using the inside edge ofthe double stick tape as your zeropoint. Mark every 70 cm and 140cm, until you reach 420 cm.

4. Put a piece of double stick tapealong the second short edge onthe silver side.

5. Cut the foil at 430 cm. Tis isthe outer edge of the double sticktape.

Tools: markers, ruler, knife

Step 4:Double Stick Tape

Put double stick tape on the longedges of the Larger Piece, on the

silver side.

1. Begin by peeling back the waxpaper on the corner of the doublestick tape you stuck on the shortedge in Step 3.

2. Layer a new strip of tape on top.

3. Extend the new strip of tape allthe way down the long edge.

4. When you reach the secondshort edge, peel back the back thewax paper on the corner of thedouble stick tape on that shortedge, and layer the long strip ontop.

5. Cut off end of the tape withscissors.

6. Repeat on other side.

7. Roller over the top of the tapeto remove air gaps.

Tools: double stick tape, roller,scissors.

Step 5:Red Line

1. On the Smaller Piece, adhere a40 cm strip of the red line along

one of the long edges.

2. On the Larger Piece, adhere a40 cm strip of the red line alongthe middle section. Do not putthe red tape over the double sticktape.

3. Roller over the top of the red

tape to remove air gaps and secureit onto the foil.

4. On the Larger Piece, cut off thered tape by placing the tape on awood block and cut with a sharpknife.

Tools: red tape, roller, knife, ruler.

Step 6: Make the Handles

Make 10 handles. 8 with velcroand 2 with out.

1. Make the handles out of 2plyfoil: Put a long piece of doublestick tape along the white side ofthe foil, then fold the piece of foilover. Tis will make a strip of foilthat is 2 pieces thick and silver onboth sides. Cut the foil to 5 cm x50 cm.

2. Put 10 cm of double stick tapeon either edge. Roller to removeair bubbles.

3. Cut five 5 cm long strips of 4cm wide velcro. Cut a mixture of“hook” and “loop” strips. Adherethe 5 velcro strips in the middle

of the handle, alternating stripsof hook and loop. Tis will makea 20 cm area of velcro in themiddle of the handle. Te handlesof different cubes can be stucktogether to make stacks of cubes.Attach the non velcro handles tothe valve side of the cube.

Tools: velcro, double stick tape, roller, marker, scissors.

Step 7:Insert Handles

Stick the handles on to the foil.

1. Use the pattern diagram tomark the positions of the handleson the cube. (We made a templateout of cardboard that was 25cm x37.5cm and, lined the center up tothe 70 cm guide marks, and thenmade marks around the corner ofthe template.)

2. Cut slits that are 5 cm long.Slide the double stick tape onhandles through the slits and thenstick them onto the white sideof the foil. Te velcro should befacing out.

3. Reinforce the front, inside andback of handles with gaffer tape.

4. Roll with roller.Tools: marker, roller, ruler, knife.

Step 8: Make the Valve

Use the plastic lid enclosed in thepackage to make the valve for the

inflatable. Te valve is used to putair into the inflatable.

1. Cover the clear plastic part ofthe valve in double stick tape. Put vertical strips of the double sticktape on the outside of the plastic.Overlap the strips so to preventair gaps. (o lay one strip on top

of another, you have to peel back alittle of the wax paper).

2. Cut vertical slits in the tapedplastic. Tis allows the plastic tosplay open. Cut every 1 - 2cm vertically, up to the wavy line inthe plastic.

Tools: plastic lid, double stick tape, scissors.

Step 9:Insert the Valve

1. race the lid in the center of redline on the Larger Piece.

2. Cut out this circle to make ahole.

3. Flip over the Larger Piece, sothe white side of foil is facing up.

4. Put the clear plastic openingthrough the hole.

5. Stick the double stick tape on tothe white side of the foil.

6. Reinforce the inside with gaffertape.

7. Roll with roller and smoothwith fingers.

8. Flip the foil back over, so thesilver side is facing up.

9. Put the red lid back on. Te redlid should be on the silver side.

Tools: marker, scissors, gaffer tape.

Step 10:Put the InflatableTogether

Stick the inflatable together byattaching the double stick tape onLarger Piece to white side of theSmaller Piece.

1. Begin by attaching the LargerPiece to the Smaller Piece so thered lines connect.

2. Ten attach each side, oneby one. When you are foldinga corner, you need to makean incision across the doublestick tape to allow you to foldthe corner. Reinforce above theincision with black gaffer tape onthe white side.

It is helpful to begin at the cornersand only peel back a little of thedouble stick tape at once. ry tomake the 140 cm guide marksmatch up.

3. Roller the tape to remove airbubbles.

Tools: roller.

Step 11:Inflate

Use a fan with a hose attached ora vacuum cleaner on reverse to

inflate the inflatable cube.

1. Stick the hose into the valveopening.

2. Wrap gaffer tape around thegap between the hose and the valve.

3. Inflate

4. Quickly remove gaffer and hoseand screw on red lid.
