Tomorrow
Today’s parable shows us the foolishness of making all of our plans on the basis of the here and now.
In the story, the rich man stores up treasure for himself. He is greedy. The Greeks had a word for greed
that made clear that it is more than just a desire for money. The word is pleonexia. People with pleonexia
experience a restlessness that pushes them to acquire more and more. They never see beyond
themselves. Their planning is aggressively self-centered.
The rich man had an abundance of riches which he never considered giving away. As Christians, we
should understand that this is the reverse of the Christian message. Our mission is to store up treasure
in heaven. For a Christian, this is wealth management. Storing our lives with what matters to God.
There is a story of a conversation between an ambitious young man and an older and wiser friend who
knew what matters to God. The younger man announced: I will learn my trade perfectly. His friend
inquired: And then? I will set up a business. And then? I will make a fortune. And then? I suppose that
I will grow old and retire and live a happy retirement. And then? Well, I guess that someday I will die.
And then?

La parábola de hoy nos muestra la tontería de hacer todos nuestros planes sobre la base del aquí y el
ahora. En la historia, el hombre rico almacena tesoros para sí mismo. Él es codicioso. Los griegos tenían
una palabra de codicia que dejaba en claro que es más que un simple deseo de dinero. La palabra es
pleonexia. Las personas con pleonexia experimentan una inquietud que las empuja a adquirir más y
más. Nunca ven más allá de sí mismos. Su planificación es agresivamente egocéntrica.
El hombre rico tenía una abundancia de riquezas que nunca consideró regalar. Como cristianos,
debemos entender que esto es lo contrario del mensaje cristiano. Nuestra misión es acumular tesoros en
el cielo. Para un cristiano, esto es gestión de la riqueza. Almacenar nuestras vidas con lo que le importa
a Dios.
Hay una historia de una conversación entre un joven ambicioso y un amigo mayor y más sabio si sabía
lo que le importa a Dios. El hombre más joven anunció: Aprenderé mi oficio perfectamente. Su amigo
le preguntó: ¿Y luego? Estableceré un negocio. ¿Y entonces? Haré una fortuna. ¿Y entonces? Supongo
que envejeceré, me jubilaré y viviré una jubilación feliz. ¿Y entonces? Bueno, supongo que algún día
moriré. ¿Y entonces?
