Holy Father’s Prayer Intention for
January 2016
Universal Intention: That sincere dia-
logue among men and women of differ-
ent faiths may produce the fruits of peace
and justice.
Intention for Evangelization: That by means of dialogue
and fraternal charity, and with the grace of the Holy Spirit,
Christians may overcome divisions.
Intercessory Prayers; Children - Born & Unborn
For orphaned children throughout the world,
And especially those
Who are abused or neglected,
That we might work to save them;
We pray to the Lord
The Epiphany of the Lord
January 2 & 3, 2016
Isaiah 60:1-6 The glory of the Lord shines on all people.
Psalm 72 “Lord, every nation on earth will adore your.”
Ephesians 3:2-3a, 5-6 The Gentiles are coheirs of the promise.
Matthew 2:1-12 The magi come with gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Listening to the readings proclaimed today, it will become apparent that God intends for the
Good News of salvation to be shared by everyone. From the expansive vision of Isaiah to
the radical inclusion of Saint Paul, we are to understand that the journey of the magi is one
that we all can undertake. The signs are there in the heavens and in God’s word. Let us all
pack our bags and seek the Lord wherever the journey takes us.
The Baptism of the Lord

Stewardship
The Magi brought the child Jesus gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. What gifts do I place
before Jesus? My time? My talent? My treasure? It is important to measure our generosity not
by what we give, but by what we have left
Let’s face it: Catholic Christians tend to have an aversion to the
term “evangelization.” It evokes images of knocking on doors, of
being asked uncomfortable questions. Even those of us who do
acts of evangelization tend not to use the term, as Matthew Kelly
found in his research on what makes for a Dynamic Catholic.
Yet, there is no denying that the Gospel emphatically demands
that we must share the Good News with others. There is no
Denying that we cannot simply read our Bible at home or go to
Mass on Sunday and call ourselves followers of Jesus. We are
called to serve others to engage in works of mercy, to show a
preferential option for the poor, to work for justice and, yes, to use
words to tell others about Jesus Christ.
Deep down, we Catholics KNOW we are supposed to share our
faith with others. And, deep down, we WANT to do better about
sharing our faith. But how?
This weekly column, “Living Catholic in the 808” will provide
one, small answer to this question. Week by week, join us for
practical tips on what evangelization can look like for “Typical”
Catholics. C’mon! We can do this!

Pro-Life Reflection
Whoever does not take up hi own cross and follow Me
cannot be My disciple ~Lk 14:24
Reflection: To stand up for what is right means we stand
against what is wrong, and that means that those who
love what is wrong will oppose us, just as they oppose
Christ. Taking up the cross means we continue standing
for the right even when that opposition comes.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for the grace of being pro-life
and of standing strong when others ridicule or oppose me.
May Your peace fill my soul and may I become more like
Your crucified and risen Son.
